Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    another unzip problem

What am I doing wrong? I have read the board and tried everything I can think of (which is aparently too limited to solve this problem). The ZIP works fine. The Unzip always fails. The line of code in question is:
    flg=File.Unzip("D:\DDC\dealer code\backup.zip","DDC\dealer code\*.*","D:\DDC\dealer code")
I would very much appreciate some help.

Could it be related to the problems I am having with the space in the names instead of an underline?

I'll change the directory name and try it. This could take a little while.

BINGO! The unzip can't take names with spaces. I changed "D:\DDC\dealer code" to "D:\DDC\dealer_code" and it works fine. I now have a fully automatic backup and restore that automatically finds it's path. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post them.

This works while the main form is active (vectored to a dummy table) and has no problems backing up the open dummy table. It also has no problems restoring while the dummy table is open (it never changes). Hope this helps someone else.

I forgot to take out the Status() call- that's an internal call to my home brewed status bar. The {StatusBar.Set_Text("fuzzywampusswinniefoo")} was there to put something on the old status bar to provwe it is working (in case there is a problem). In the normal operatiopn, the regular status bar is disabled.

Thanks for sharing. I will try it out. I also created a backup and restore utility and will let you know the differences. If you would like to see what I did, let me know.

                  RE: another unzip problem

I pasted this code into a button on my main menu and it didn't work properly. It created a file called backup.zip on the desktop and all that was in was the shortcuts on the desktop, ie outlink.ink, etc.

                  What did I do wrong?

                  Thanks

                    RE: another unzip problem

It creates a "backup.zip" file in the default directory, whatever that is. You can use the "Dir_Put()" Xbasic command to change the default directory, or you can change the variable "pth" to whatever you want. **IMPORTANT NOTE: By the way, the backup file grows each time you use it because it also backs up "backup.old". Each "backup.old" has the previous "backup.old". This means the file doubles each time. If the growing archive with all versions isn't what you want (it seemed like a good idea at the time, but...), move "backup.old" out of the default directory before you back up, then move it back in when you're done.
                    Hope this helps
