Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5V5 goes to the Movies

In order to better learn the features of version 5 I decided to develop an application for a DVD collection. I am stuck on a problem with the handling of image files.

I scanned the poster covers of my collection and stored the jpeg files on disk. The set structure has multiple relationships because one movie may have several leading actors and each actor may star in several movies.

I am using a table lookup in the field rules of the set to retrieve several fields from a MovieDetails table that includes an image file and fill it in a "header" file. Problem is that the image field gets changed when saving the first record. I have tried changing the structure to an image reference field and the same result.

I am trying to have the lookup retrieve the image in a lookup and save it to the header file. Am I missing something here?

    Thanks for your input.

    Alex,

What do you mean by, "Problem is that the image field gets changed when saving the first record." Is it the fiel extension, the image, the type of field, etc?

Can you tell us how it's changing?

It reverts to another image that does not correlate with the image in the detail table. So I changed the index to see how it would behave and found that there is no consistency in the how the tables relate to images. The data associated with the set is relating correctly.

      Thanks,

        Alex,

Are you saying, i.e., if you had an image of donald duck, it reverts to mickey mouse? The image itself completely changes?

Definitely sounds a bit "Goofy" (sorry could not resist!)

Alex, you mention "header" so are you referring to a report?

RE: A5V5 goes to the Movies

I had some conceptual problems with the design of the set and seem to have worked it out. I have a field lookup defined in the rules to lookup the detail info about a movie. One field in the detail record is an image file. In the lookup it does not update the field and I still have to import the image into the form. I would like to do that in one step when the lookup for the movie code is done on the form.

I have made a sample of the application and posted it here, There is also a zip file with 3 jpeg files used in this sample. Thanks for your interest in this project.

P.S. - I realize that the project may seem childish to advanced programmers, please bear with me while I'm trying to learn this program. Thanks.

I looked at you movie app.
The image file reference is pointed to the wrong file.
right click and change file reference.

another way that I do it is:
name the jpeg file to the moviecode.
then you can put a default expression in the field rules to look for the trim(moviecode)+".jpg"

that way you wont get the title confused.
