    Default Enter New Record

    Hello Everyone,

    I have a data entry form, that filters with a x-dialog box.
    And it only showes the records of course that are filtered by the x-dialong box(thanks board for all the help on the box a few months back).

    The first field on the entry form uses a lookup table where, when the data is selected, it fills in this field plus a few other fields with data.

    When a user wants to Enter a new record, how can I get the look up table to focus with the variable in the x-dialog box, but still show all the selections that should be in the Lookup table? I know how to filter the lookup table to just show the item that equals the variable, but how do I let the lookup table show everything that is supposed to be there, but just focus on the selection that equals the variable, so the user just has to click OK, or hit enter, but still has the ability to select other selections if needed at this point?

    Can it get focus with the variable??

    Thanks Ed

    Ed,

    If I understand you correctly you want your lookup field to have a default value of your variable. To do that just say(keep in mind this is an example you need to change the names)

    parentform:lookupfield.value = the_variable
    parentform:lookupfield.activate()

    Hope this is what you wanted.

    Hi Scott,

    Trying to give focus to the lookup table, so that when the lookup table pops up, it has the focus of the variable. Then the operator just needs to hit enter or OK.

    But the lookup popup still showes all of the selections that should be there, with the focus on the value of the variable.

    Ed,

    Once you give the field the value, when the lookup is displayed it will be set on that value.

    Here is a test for you so you can see what i am talking about.

    Pop up the lookup table and select a record.
    Hit OK
    Now you have the value in the field that you selected.
    Now open the lookup table again.

    Notice the record that was previously selected is highlighted in the lookup table.

    Isn't this what you want??

    Hi Scott,

    Yes, that is what I want. I am a little confused as where to put:

    parentform:lookupfield.value=Var->Job
    parentform:lookupfield.activate()

    Does it go in field rules under data entry , default mode?

    To be truthfull I was going to try it, but have been here trying to figure out where to put it.

    Thanks Ed
