Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Reports - "No Pages in the Layout"

I have a set, Invoices, that has the name, address, invoice number, etc., for the customer, and it has a child table that shows all of the tickets for that customer. On the 15th of Sept. I printed out of these invoices and they worked perfectly. Today, I cannot print or preview any of them because they say there are no pages in the layout. When I view the form for the invoice set, everything is there. I haven't changed anything with any of these reports. (There are several reports with different formats depending on the customer.) None of them work. I have updated the program. Help!!!! The reports that do not use a set will still work. Any suggestions?

    RE: Reports -

edit the report and then select the "report, select records" command.

is the radio button set to "none" or "base on current selection of records"?

if you change it to "none" does it work?

      Peggy,

Go to the Report menu and then Report Properties, and click the Page tab. In the Overflow Data section at the bottom, what is selected? Make sure it's set to "Trim (do not print) overflow data". That should solve the problem unless it's already set this way. Let us know.

It is already set to none and to shrink data to fit the page.

          Try setting it to:

Trim (do not print) overflow data

and see if that makes a difference.

Also, how wide is the report? Do any fields or other object extend more than 7 1/2" or does the layoout go past 8 1/2"? IF so, that's probably tour problem and you'll need to change the page width.

            RE: Reports -

I tried setting it to trim and that did not make any difference. My confusion here is that it worked to print 20 invoices on the 15th and now it won't work. I don't believe I have done anything that should make it not work. I am sure it is probably some little thing, as has been suggested. I know how one little setting being set wrong can mess everything up, but this really has me stumped. I am using a ask-user variable for the invoice number so it only prints the one I want. And that did work before.

This report problem really has me stumped. I worked on it all weekend and I was hoping I would get online this morning and you would have had the same problem and would have had an update that would have fixed it. I am really impressed with all of the work that has gone into this new version. And with the promptness of the updates and fixes. I really like what you did with the auto-increment feature. I tried it as soon as I read about the new feature and it seems to work exactly like I want. I haven't entered any new tickets yet to really try it out but I have faith it will work. Now, if I could just figure out this report problem!!!!!!

are you absolutely sure you don't have an active query running that returns 0 records? This happened to me after I had done a query which did not find any records, and the table index was not reactivated.
