Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Pop Up Windows

    Version 5

Hoping the terminology is correct, the "pop up windows" (or screens) exceed the size of my 17" monitor. Many of them the "cancel" etc. button is below my bottom bar and I cannot move the entire window up to reach it.

Also, where is the default to set when opening databases to full screen?

    RE: Pop Up Windows

what resolution are you working at?

the size of your monitor is not the relevant issue.

what's important is your screen resolution.

    a5 requires a minimum of 800 x 600 pixels.

    we prefer 1024 x 768

800 x 600 - Radeon 7200/Radeon VE with dpi of 125%. Most every pop up window comes out too large - constantly having to move to get to the bottom. One I can't use at all.

        RE: Pop Up Windows

please try to increase your resolution to 1024 x 768

or, if you want to remain at 800 x 600 then you need to be at 100% scaling, not 125%

          RE: Pop Up Windows

Did what you suggested - so far so good. I do not know how or when the 125% got in place - but I checked my other programs in Lotus and Adobe - all work even better.

Will have to find out how to make that 1024 x 768 - and give that a whirl.

          Thank you.

          Laurie

PS - I have put my Alpha 4 into semi-retirement. Running your new 5.0 - not experiencing the problems that are noted on the forum's lists. Still trying to figure out how to format the zipcode fonts so they are all cap's. Slowly but surely I am increasing my knowledge of your piece of art - Alpha Five.

Right-click on your desktop. Choose "Properties." Go to the settings tab. Change the resolution to 1024x768.

Thanks Aaron, but Selwyn came back within minutes and said the same thing. My CRT was set at 125% - how, why, I will never know.

Where did you find the setting for scaling? I'm probably looking right at it but I cannot see it.

                Thanks,

                  Bill,

I think they are refering to the size of the windows font shown on the display. Go to Windows Control Panel, Display, and select the Settings tab. Click on the button Advanced. On the General tab you should see a drop down box for the font size. Normal or small is 100%. Large fonts is 125%. Many people with less than stellar eye sight (like some of us more "experienced" people) may set the font size to large, particularly if we have a small monitor. 1024 x 768 on a 15 inch monitor has awfully small text.

                    Hi Jerry,

Thanks for this. I *was* looking right at it. Except I was looking for a number whereas I was seeing "small fonts".

I must say that your use of the term "experienced" is diplomatic indeed.
