Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Selwyn- Please advise:Problem with latest patch

I know that others have not been having problems with the latest patch, but I certainly am. Here are some of the problems that I have seen thus far:

    1. as I reported in another thread, forms with embedded browses load funny - the browse appears 1st and then the outline of the form - this is the case for all 13 forms.

    2. the embedded browses are no longer sorted in the order that I defined in the form.

    3. given these problems, I again reverted back to patch 1296-1009. The problems disappeared, but then I noticed that every one of my scripts was duplicated! Every sibngle one of them - so that there was now 2 of every script in the code tab of the control panel. I copied a backup that I had saved just prior to installing the latest patch. The scripts are now back to the way they should be - just one of each.

I would love to start using the new patch but now am afraid that it may cause corruption of my application. What should I do?

    Hi Gary,

Do us a favor and when you are talking about these patch issues (as I assume we all will be for a while) please give the actual number. As fast and furious as they were coming yesterday, "the latest" was difficult to interpret.

    Regards,

These problems occur for me in each patch since 1296-1009. The 1296-1009 works fine - all since then are causing the problems I describe above.

            resonses to questions:

            1. as I reported in another thread, forms with embedded browses load funny - the browse appears 1st and then the outline of the form - this is the case for all 13 forms.

i don't see any difference in this build. for example, invoice form in alphasports loads (to my eye) same as previous builds.

            2. the embedded browses are no longer sorted in the order that I defined in the form.

yes. i see that. we will fix it. this all relates to the addition of support for ask variables in form/browse filter properties which we added in build 1308. very sorry in retrospect that we added it :(

            3. given these problems, I again reverted back to patch 1296-1009. The problems disappeared, but then I noticed that every one of my scripts was duplicated! Every sibngle one of them - so that there was now 2 of every script in the code tab of the control panel. I copied a backup that I had saved just prior to installing the latest patch. The scripts are now back to the way they should be - just one of each.

that's impossible. if you switch to the detailed view in the control panel (by clicking the detail view icon on the toolbar) and look in the Library column, do the "duplicate" scripts each have the same or different libraries?

if you go to file/database properties. then go to the libraries tab, is there an attached library? if you drop this library, do the duplicates disappear.

I would love to start using the new patch but now am afraid that it may cause corruption of my application. What should I do?

it is impossible that using build 1310 will corrupt your application.

              Selwyn:

I can't answer to #3 because I already reverted back to a backup and the problem is gone.

Regarding #1, I understand that others apparently are not experiencing this problem. Maybe there is something going on with my app. But the problem only ocurs with my app in conjunction with the newer patches. There is apparently some interaction here. What do you suggest?

              Regarding #2, thank you.

Again, thank you for all your help.

I am using a KDS Valiant laptop, 850 Mhz Pentium III, 256 MB RAM. I am not sure about the video card.

I have the same thing happening on 1308...the browse loads first, but it loads... I have found many strange things happening in the embedded browse... one instance where a dialog window didn't clear in the browse area, just failed to clear it out. I also find other peculiarities with the embedded browse on a form. For the time being, I am just living with it... I have so many other matters to take care of first.

                      Happy to report!!

I just downloaded and installed the latest patch (1312-1014) and all appears to be working quite well. No more problem with the "funny" loading of forms with embedded browses, and the browses are sorted correctly.

                      Thank you once again!!
