Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Copy previous record

The copy previous record, short cut (Ctrl Shift R) doesnot seem to work all the time. My table consists of:
    (1)Date
    (2)Member ID
    (3)Member Name
    (4)Part No
    (5)Part Name
    (6)Qty On Hand
    (7)Qty Ordered
    (8)Cost
    (9)Total Cost
    (10) Paid For
    (11) Received
I add (and save)a record. Then I Copy the previous record
using Ctrl Shift R, it works perfectly. I can make whatever changes I want and then save the record.
But, when I add field rules, strange think happen.
When I hit Ctrl Shift R, the record is added, but a new blank screen appears with only the last two fields filled in (10 & 11 Above).
I know the record has been copied. At the top of bar memu
there is a white space that shows the record #. Lets say it is record 6. When I hit Ctrl Shift R, the record # gos to 7. Now if I right click the Previous (Page up) icon, it shows record 6. When I right click the Next (Page down) icon, record 7 (the one I just copid) appears fully filled in, of which I can change something and save or just save. What is going on. Why when I do a Copy Previous record, I get a new blank record to start inputing.
Fields 2 & 3 are field rules for table lookups.
fields 4, 5, 7, & 8 are field rules for another table lookup.
    Field 9 is a cal using fields field 6 * field 8.
    Fields 10 & 11 Are "Y" or "N" (Yes or No)

I have been using many many ver's of Alpha 4 & 5 and have never seen "Copy Previus Record" act like this. I have gone back and deleted all field rules, and the Copy Previous works perfectly. But when I add fields rules, the above happens.

One other think. This is a small record, only 11 fields with 10 fields having some kind of field rule. I have other table with many fields (50) and only somewhat few
field rules (20). Maybe the fact that I have a very large percentage of the fields set for field rules is causing this to happen. I just can not do what I want to do with the "Copy Previous Record" working as it does.

    RE: Copy previous record

    Dan,

I know Selwyn looked at the Ctrl-Shift-R sequence during the beta testing period, and fixed some of the problems with it.

But I would send him a email, along with an sample application so he can duplicate the problem.

Until then, use the menu version of the command, I believe that works with no problems.

Look under the form "Records" Menu, select "Duplicate Record"

PS: Ver 5 also has an enhanced "copy to clipboard" and "Paste" commands you may want to check out, look under the form "Edit" menu.

      Daniel

Selwyn did this for me. Put this on a button Push event.

      t = table.get("Your_table_name")
      t.fetch_prev()
      Member ID.text = t.Member ID
      Member Name.text = t.Member Name
      Part No.text=t.Part No
      Part Name.text=t.Part Name

      Etc.

Try it and see, I don't know what field rules you have as to how this will work. Let us know.

I will try this. I have just started using xbasic, so it may be some time.
