Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

My Thoughts on this weeks posts

I think sometimes we have to be reminded that we are not all alike. Some of us are frugal, some of us are extravagant, some of us are power users, some of us just want our basic database needs covered. (You dont need a lot of power to handle a 200-member roll for a local service club.)

Many posts that I am reading are not expressing any or very little tolerance for other peoples viewpoints or requirements.

Virtually all of us that use any database program stated out as database dummies. Some of us either through curiosity, need or obsession are more knowledgeable about all databases including Alpha than the more average user. (I would wager a guess that this would include the Rabins)

Most of us either casual, average, or power users had an opportunity to see and marvel at the power and ease of use that Version 5 had to offer through beta opportunities. Most of us were looking forward to the spell checker, auto completion inquiries an on, and on, and on. Many of us I am sure were expecting an upgrade in the order of moving from V3 to V4 and so on. Obviously or not it appears that Alpha 5 has in my opinion been targeted V5 to the power user or developer rather that the casual or average user and is priced to reflect this.

I certainly appreciate the additional power and ease of use of V5 do I need it? Probably not!! Will I upgrade YES!! Already done.

I am neither defending nor criticizing Alphas pricing or rebate procedure.

I am not specifically defending or criticizing other view points

I am asking that we all give consideration to other peoples requirements and opinions.

Is there a solution?? Sure!!! Give us Version 4.6 with auto completion queries, spell check and a few other neat goodies that have popped up in V5, let us have it for the upgrade prices we have been used to and let the power users and developers have at V5.

Is this likely to happen?? Hardly, too expensive for Alpha to go back. Mmm Maybe if it had started out V4.6 first, would we all be happy, probably not CANT PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.

Looking forward to Version 6 and the first week of posts

Best wishes to all and to all a good night.
