Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    best version?

    I am developping applications
    for our school
    for myself
    for a company

Which version of a5v5 will be the best?
    seperate a5v5 versions?
    unlimited runtimes?

When I have three different applications at school on three different PCs do I need three versions of a5? I think so.

    RE: best version?

    Ludwig,

I'll take a crack at your question.

If the school and company that you are building apps for do not need to modify your application after you deliver it, it probably will be more economic for you to buy one of the runtime versions and deliver the runtime to them with your app. You will need a version that covers enough concurrent users at each location. You do not need to buy multiple runtime licenses.

If you buy a 10 seat runtime license the runtime can be delivered to both the school and the company, for example. In a sense it's like an unlimited license, but it's been hobbled internally so that no more than 10 concurrent users can run your app at once on a single network.

On the other hand if either the school or the company want to modify your app (without your involvement) they will have to buy their own copy of the full (developmemt) version.

      RE: best version?

      PLease clarify for myself.

Tom - you said: "You will need a version that covers enough concurrent users at each location."

So if he had 5 users at each location, a 5 user RT would be sufficient. Correct? It is concurrent at each location (as you said).

Another words, he could install his app on an Unlimited number of locations, but not more than 5 machines per location.

      Thanks for the clarification.

        RE: best version?

        Tom,

I don't remember seeing a 5 seat runtime in the product list. If I recall correctly, 10 seat is the minimum. If a 5 seat RT is available and he only has 5 concurrent users at any location, then the 5 seat RT version would be the least costly option.

Do you think there should be a 3 or 5 seat Runtime version?

            Keith,

Yes. However, it's not up to me of course, and I don't know
how much work is required to create (or maintain) separate customized versions of each Runtime. Theoretically they could offer the entire range from 1 seat to unlimited number of seats, the pricing for each additional seat could be set using a declining scale per seat. However, at some point the work involved in creating and maintaining all the different versions might be more trouble than it's worth.
