Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Rebates for V4.5 Purchases

There seems to be a little confusion on the procedure for getting your rebate for your V4.5 purchase.

    The rebate forms are at:

    Well, I see, but....
At the order form there is a price of 299.-
I paid 125.- for an update to 4.5
So what will I have to pay for the update? Will I have to pay 299.- and get some money back later or will there be an immediate reduction when ordering and downloading?

Ludwig, you must send in the form and the rebate will be mailed to you. That is what is printed on the rebate form.

As I live in England I asked Sales this and was advised that it would be a cheque (check!) and that they would make sure it is valid in my country!

            Hello Glen,
I think that we (in the UK) should present a united front and ask Alpha for an alternative to a cheque payment. A cheque drawn on a US bank would take time and involve costs, to clear and is therefore unacceptable.
When we purchased v4.5 we were told that the full cost would be credited against the purchase of v5. Since then the goal posts seem to have moved!
I purchased both the full version and unlimited runtime of v4.5 so it is not an inconsequential sum involved here, let me know your thoughts.
Also we were told by Alpha - on this board- that the runtime would be in 3 seat options upward, now they say it starts at 10 seats so (even with the credit) we will have to pay much more for a cut-down product.

              Peter

I must admit I intend to contact my bank tomorrow to see what the current cost of converting a US Dollar Cheque into Sterling is going to be.

I know that there is a conversion cost involved even on a credit card purchase via the web site but if the cheque encashment cost is sgnificantly higher then I will be asking for the rebate to be credited to the credit card account that I used to purchase v5.

I assume that will be possible?

              Regards

                Glen,
Until last year my business was foreign exchange so I agree with you that a credit to our card accounts is the best solution, there would be a small charge and possibly a loss in the conversion from USD to GBP. A US cheque, on the other hand, could take 4 to 6 weeks to negotiate and cost anything from 5 to 50 pounds.

                    Hello Jeff,

Even in Canada charges for cashing foreign checks can indeed be outlanddish.

At my bank the charge the ordinary person $7 US to cash a US check. I remember this well because somebody once sent me a check for $10 which was pretty useless. I now have a US dollar account so the cost to me is nothing.

But don't blame Canada. I belive Ira told me that his bank charged him plenty to deposit a Canadian check I sent him.

If you paid for the upgrade by credit card, surely Alpha can credit the $49 to your card?

Well, Peter, I'm in the U.S. and I believe that the idea of a rebate is ridiculous, especially with the 'sticker shock' of the new prices. When we purchased v4.5, we were told we would receive a credit of the purchase price toward the cost of the v5. To me that means that I should pay only the difference (between the upgrade price and the price I paid for v4.5) at the time of purchase.

                              Here, Here

If Alpha cannot verify who I am and what I have previously purchased BEFORE I spend any more money then I will not buy.

I am happy to provide whatever they need but I expect to pay a reduced price, not get a rebate 6 weeks down the line in a US Dollar cheque (I am also in UK).
