Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Evaluation Version

When will the 30 day evaluation be available for version 5?
I did not get on the Beta program and my company wil not make a purchase unless I prove the new version works as advertised.

      RE: Evaluation Version

I had a call from an ALpha Software marketing representative on Friday. He stated that there willl not be an evaluation version of Version 5. The only way I will get to evaluate the software will be to buy it. If I do not re=gister the software I might be able to claim a refund of the $299.
The attitude of the person calling me was not what I had come to expect from Alpha Software over the years. I have been a user since DOS version 3.
If I cannot evaluate the software without sheling out the purchase price, particularly with the number of bugs that seem to be reported on the forum, then Alpha software may have lost my business, and the potential business of a major systems integrator with 140,000 employees, as I recently introduced them to version 4.5.

        Michael,

Are you SURE the call came Alpha, and not someone playing games? What you might want to do is get their name and call Alpha (1.800.451.1018) and ask to speak to that person. There is always the possibility of a 'verbal virus'. How's that for a new term?.

I've had 2 calls from Alpha sales reps. One at work and one at home, not by the same person; both left a message. I'm hoping they will have a list of who's purchased so it saves the time and expense of a wasted call.

              RE: Evaluation Version

I recently had a call from a very polite sales person from Alpha. We chatted for a while and he didn't press me to buy anything more but did tell me everything that was available; runtimes, Dr. Wayne's books, the upgrade to
V5, etc. (Of course, I knew what was available before he called from my involvement on this board.) I was afraid I chatted so much he was losing sales. But he was the type of sales person you like to hear from.

In addition to what Ohlen said, the money is $100% refundable if you don't like the program. Ya can't knock a deal like that.
