It has been a very long time since I have haunted this board ( I have done some development in version five ). I go a copy of version six back in the spring. I knew that there was going to be a bit of a learning curve and that I will have to work off the old rust but it feels as if I've hit a brick wall.
I think I have forgotten everything!!!
To make matters worse it is taking some time to find all the reference material. I am feeling a bit demoralized at this point but if I could get just one victory, just one thing to work!!
Anyway, I have a huge pile of coupons to enter from a promotion that I did at the restaurant where I work, each coupon contains the usual name, address, phone, email data.
The prize is a $50 gas coupon, the pile is huge and the regular customers have put in a coupon every time they have come in to eat. So the trick is to find a quick way to identify the repeats before I end up having to retype all the data.
So I thought maybe I could create a routine where the first field to enter is the phone number field.
If the number already exists a script would run to pull up all instances of the same phone number listing the names, addresses etc of the people with the same number. The reason for this is that both a husband and wife kids etc could have the same phone number.
At that point I could quickly accertain whether or not the coupon is a repeat. And this would be great because I am a really slow typist.
If it is not a repeat the routine will allow me to enter the new record.
A hint or nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
