Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Brother Lable Printer QL-550

    Hi

Has any had an experience printing to this printer. It takes a continuous roll of paper and the s/w that's provided allows it to print from Excel and Access as an Add-In App.

However, I want print from my A5V6 database directly.

From a previous posting someone suggested that it's easier to design it as a report rather than use the label funtionality.

    Anybody able to help.

    Regards
    Steve

    RE: Brother Lable Printer QL-550

    Steve,

Create a new printer with the paper size required for the labels then select that printer in design mode.

      Hi Keith

      Thanks for the answer.

I know it probably sound like a dumb question, but I am not sure that I understand what you mean by 'create a new printer'

Do you mean within Aplha? Where?

      Thanks

Create the printer in the windows control panel.

          Thanks

Managed to get it working. Only problem now is I get an extra label for each record.
Unlike reports cannot seem to find what the problem is. I am using a continuous 62mm roll and the printer has an auto cutter feature. I have specified the width as 100mm and have clicked the 'shrink data to fit' option on properties.
          Any ideas.

            RE: Brother Lable Printer QL-550

This sort of things happens on full size printers when the size of the report layout itself cannot fit entirely within the printable "zone" on each sheet. I'd wager you have the same problem. The physical size of your layout won't fit within the printable area on each label. If it were me I'd reduce the physical dimensions of the "report" layout until the problem went away.

              Brother QL-550 and COM Component

              All,

I've read this thread and thought I'd try and resurect it. I too would like a bit of advice. I know quite a bit about printing to this printer, but not from within A5V7.

Brother have made a COM Component available with an SDK via their web site. I've had a button on a web page working via Internet Explorer using Javascript, but I'm a newby to A5V7 so my question is how do I get A5V7 to use the COM component?

Here's some VB that Brother list on their web site - it may be of use:

Public Sub DoPrint(strPath As String, strExport As String)
              ' Creates the b-PAC object
Dim ObjDoc As BrssCom.Document .Set ObjDoc = CreateObject("BrssCom.Document")
              ' Opens the template
              If (ObjDoc.Open(strPath) <> False) Then
' Searches for text from the field names, and replaces the text
              Dim nIndex As Integer
              nIndex = ObjDoc.GetTextIndex("Company")
              ObjDoc.SetText nIndex, edCompany.Text
              nIndex = ObjDoc.GetTextIndex("Name")
              ObjDoc.SetText nIndex, edName.Text
' Prints or exports to a bitmap
              If (strExport = "") Then
              ObjDoc.DoPrint 0, "0" ' Print
              Else
              ObjDoc.Export 2, strExport, 180 ' Export
              End If
              End If
              ' Closes the b-PAC object
              Set ObjDoc = Nothing
              End Sub

Hope someone can help me out here...
