Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Client / Server

With the release of version 7 imminent, I would really appreciate some kind of indication about the Client/Server version.

Is this still going to happen in version 7.0 ?

What features can we expect ?

What is the pricing structure going to be like ?

I know you are all very busy at Alphasoftware but this info would help me plan ahead into 2006.

    Thanks in advance.

    RE: Client / Server

    I Agree

I Committed to developing in Alpha Five based largely on my understanding that Version 7 would support client server!

It would be nice to have a better idea of current development plans and strategies so that I can plan

I would press on Alpha Software the need to clearly define future directions and let you developer base know

      RE: Client / Server

      Same here,

I developed a database system for our organization in Alpha thinking we would be able to migrate this over to a MSSQL or MySQL Client/Server Database. If this is not going to happen, I will need to do something else.

I thought I'd bring this back up the top of the list , since it is not getting much play - and probably deserves to be - I thinks this is a topic that should have many threads

I recall an announcement that Client Server would be out this year, but that it was going to be a completely separate program.

              RE: Client / Server

I would love to see more development done towards Client / Server Edition and for desktop applications, intergrating other database formats.

The development done for Web applications is great, however I feel that there are more advanced solutions, just as easy - if not easier to use, out there and better priced for web developers (however server editions can be expensive - but then again there's always a web-hosting site willing to look after that side of things for you). I am not going to go into details regarding opposition products, as I am a big fan of Alpha and what they are doing for their intended market. With the resources available to them, they are doing a fantastic job.

Personally I believe that Alpha should not try and re-invent the wheel in web development, but intergrate more with existing technologies through developing components or equivalents to make the initial learning curve quicker.

I would prefer Alpha to concentrate on providing more tools for accessing different database and network environments, whether it be web, desktop, client / server or otherwise.

                RE: Client / Server

I am interested to learn more about the other much more easier Web database developer solutions that you have referred to.

I am not a current user of Alpha but I am/was interested in its ease of use and "none programmer" features for the web. I agree about the part of not "re inventing the wheel and rather interfacing with existing web technologies"

I would appreciate if you could assist me in an alternative that I can compare with - I am a Non Programmer"

                Thank You
