Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RE: Alpha Five V7 Beta is Now Available

    Selwyn,

Very keen try try out all the new facilities in A5V7 and have downloaded the beta test of V7 to try. My main interest is in the charting facility included.
I tried to follow the tutorial in SimpleChart4.chm.
Unfortuneately when I tried to create the blank form in V7.
    I received the following Message.

    "Script: UI_DLG_BOX@=dlg_title line:62 if pStyle.form.use_bitmap
    Property is write only
    pStyle.form subelement is not found."

As A result have not been able to progress further.
Have not experienced this when creating forms in Version 6.

    Could you please advise.

    Regards Robert

      Selwyn,

Tried to open simplechartlite axischart4 control on an existing form but was not available on the list. I tried to refresh the list many times but did not appear as an option.

      Any advice.

Just copy the a_stylesheets.* from your v6 folder to your v7 folder. They got left out of the installer.

Regarding the simplechart examples....do the existing forms work or are you just having trouble creating a new form using the Simple Chart activex?

On install of the beta I got the following errors. I cancelled on the second error since I don't have the sp4 cd, only the downloaded exe, and it doesn't seem to allow for that. Will this create problems?
Should I find and relocate the missing dll?

              what is your operating system?

the simplechart activex control that we bundle with V7 requires the gdiplus.dll file. this dll is supposed to be present on xp, but not older operating systems.

              the install program should install
these files if you have an old operating system. currently it is not doing this. we will fix this shortly.

in the mean time, you could download the dll and put it in your a5v7 program folder:

When can we expect the client/server version. Will it be in version 8, one year away?

The ActiveX simplechartlite axischart4 control was not available for selection when trying to place the control on the existing form.

Maybe we aren't communicating very well.

When you opened the existing form from the Miscellaneous Examples menu, did the chart appear or not? If not, was there an error message?

OS is win2k. I will get the file. The other message is of more concern. I suspect it is due to some changed dll?? If this is the case, and users get this error message it will cause a lot of consternation. I have ignored it and my computer seems to still run. Is this from the gdiplus.dll? I don't run MS word. I use Wordperfect and openoffice. Will this limit the usability of the charting feature?

Question for Beta users. Upon install, do I have still have access to V6 or does the beta install over V6?

Install it in a different directory and v6 will not be affected.
