Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Add New Table

    Hi All,

I needed a table to be looked at, as it was part of a big app I zipped up just the table concerned. I was then told that the table could not be opened as it was bound to another database.

So I created another database and tried to Add that table with all the associated files. I got the following message : Mytable "Cannot be added to this database because it is secured and bound to another database" .

Is this a new feature from Alpha? Does anyone know how to unbind a table? If I create a new table on my machine how do I send that to a client?

    Any suggestions please.

    RE: Add New Table

You must have created the table within a database that has security setup. In order to prevent users from circumventing security by adding a table to another database, tables become bound to the database they are a member of....To unbind a table, you need to add it back to its original database and then remove security, *or* drop the table from the original secured database.

If this is a new table you are sending to a user, create it from within an unsecured database.

      RE: Add New Table

      Aaron,

      Thanks for reply.

Yes you are correct, I had put a master password on the database to demonstrate how security works to a client. Now I know what else it does.

I am getting this error everytime I run an Import. Say I have 4 imports that essentially replace 4 existing databases (dbfs) in my app. Each time an import runs within a script, the error (or the dialog box) pops up. Clicking on "OK" will continue to the next import function and the table seems to be updated but someone has to click ok 4 times in this case. Is there a way to have security and still have the import operations work without the additional prompts.

as always, all info. is greatly appreaciated.

          Kris,

I cannot reproduce this issue. Please provide more information about your database setup. Does the table being overwritten belong to more than one database?

            Hi All,

I had this problem also with a couple of operations that were added to a data base.

I believe the sequience of events were like this. I applied security to the Data Base. Added an import operation, and such. Then the Security error message came up.

At the time there was one password for the entire data base. Removed the password, and re did security...............At that point the error message did not come up again.............You might give that a try to see if that fixes the messages.
