Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Refresh Shadow

I have set up Network Optimization to Automatically refresh Shadow Database based on the version number. Today all of my users received the following error "cannot find the file specified: \Program Files\A5V6 Runtime\shadow\integral\other_svcs.DDX"

other_svcs is a new table that was added but it appears that the refresh cannot find it. The documentation reads "Select Tools " Refresh Shadow. The command will refresh the current database if it is a Shadow Database, otherwise no action will occur. When new tables are added to the Master Database after the Shadow Database had been created, the new tables will be added to the Shadow Database." But this appears to be incorrect.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    RE: Refresh Shadow

    Elke Barghoorn,

    Had the same error,

Could not fix it though but,

I created a seperate setup for the shadow install, where the user re-create the link to the server app, and refresh the shadow files accordingly.

    This seems to work OK.

Another issue was, that as soon as I exported all my scripts from the script tab, the app would "think" that the data path is the folder where I save all my scripts.
    Could not fix this eiter.
I had to export the scripts to the data folder, then it would work OK.

    Hope this helps a bit
    Walter

        RE: Refresh Shadow

        i can't repeat the problem.

        to test, i did this:

        1. opened alphasports.
        2. created a shadow of alphasports.
        3. went back to the master
        4. added a new table called 'newtable'
        5. opened the shadow
        6. did a network refresh.
7 looked at the control panel - 'newtable2' was there.

perhaps your conditions are different in some way.

if you can describe to me how to repeat the problem, i will fix it asap.

          RE: Refresh Shadow

I added a new table. Incremented the optimization number. Tried it on mine and got unhandled exception twice. Checked the full version (2057), checked the Runtime version and noticed I was using 2042. Upgraded the Runtime to 2057 and worked perfectly.

          Hope this helps.

            Selwyn,

I hope you did not find "newtable2" when you added "newtable." And did you use auto refresh based on the version number?

In any case, I tried it with 2057, full and runtime, and it worked as advertised with no errors or stumbling. But I was not going across a network, which sometimes can make a difference.

              RE: Refresh Shadow

              Hi all,

              No errors since 2057.
Maybe an error in the previous runtime version.

              There is another thing however.
              1. I export all scripts in a txt file to a folder called Appname_scrips
              2. Create the aex file
              3. Remove all scripts

If I run the default shadow refresh script, it looks for the appfiles in the "Appname_scripts" folder and not the app_folder, causing an error and the shadow does not refresh.
If I export the scripts to the app_folder, and run the refresh shadow then, then it works ok.
Could you please check if this is also happening with you ?

              Thanks
              Walter

                RE: Refresh Shadow

Selwyn, all I did was add a new table and ran a refresh at the runtime machine and it came up with an error that it could not find the DDX file on the runtime site.

Copying the 4 table files from the host database to the runtime version on the first machine allowed me to refresh the shadow. While copying, I was asked if I wanted to overwrite I believe it was the .dbf file however I do not recall seeing this file in the shadow database.

I had similar problems with the second machine as the shadow had not been updated for several weeks and it was two tables behind. It was also operating on an earlier runtime version. The copy files over procedure did not work so I copied over the shadow from the first machine after updating to the latest version and it now appeared to updates the shadow.

I decide to run a quick test so I added another table to the host machine and ran a shadow update on both machine. The shadow update completed however the new table was not on the runtime machines.

We have a three computer wireless network operating on Xp home edition.

                  Selwyn,

Your instructions work on a stand alone machine, however I did receive the error today when I tried it on the network.

Placed AlphaSports on the server with full access.
                  Mapped network drive.
                  Created shadow on my computer.
Added table to server and set to automatically refresh on version number. Please see attached error message.

Elke, I had tested on a shadow copy on the same amchine. I just tested on a network, and got the same error you did.

                              Hi all,

Looks like I am running into the same problem again.
I added a new tbl to the adb, when trying to refresh the shadow, got the error "cannot find the .ddx file.

Do you know if this error was fixed? My v6 build is 2057
I saw Selwyn mentioned it was fixed.

                              Have a nice day
