Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: V7 Feature/enhancements?

Trevor, the Mozilla control is a functional replacement for the Internet Explorer control and it works well in Alpha. I don't have any sample code handy, but you can use the Xdialog genie to build a web browser.

The code generated will use "shell.explorer", which is the IE control. Simply replace it with the name of the Mozilla control after you've downloaded and installed it.

      RE: V7 Feature/enhancements?

I do not wish to belabor this thread, but it touches issues that are near and dear to me. All these comments and discussions revolve around one question and it's a pivotal question:
Given the fact that no software is perfect nor complete, and
Given the fact that alpha has and acknowledges having problems with Browses, and
Given the fact that other areas of the software do not meet the satisfaction of some developers or their needs,
The question is: do you approach this situation with piecemeal solutions that address each and every one of these areas separately? OR
Do you, revamp the entire software where the new product's core structure will not have any of these ailments and more importantly becomes more and more user friendly, efficient and with much more capabilities?

I am for the second approach and not for the Band-Aids. Time wasted on the Band-Aids is taken away from the real task.

We, the developers, have enough knowledge and expertise to provide these work-arounds (Band-Aids) until the real McCoy is out and about.

One other comment on this thread that caught my attention: alpha does not have enough qualified people to do the work.
I do not know if that is or is not true. But I have a suggestion:

In this day and age and with the complexities and demands placed on software to perform more and more functionality: Why wouldn't alpha provide an open code environment to a selected group of users (after all the legal stuff and confidentially is taken care of) to work on the re-development? What could be better than involving the end user in the development process? Don't fool yourself, If you happen to have a magic wand and wave it to make all these wishes on this thread come true, the program will still be lacking some features or in need of some more improvement. The work will never be done nor finished. Involving a certain group of users in open code might be the answer to stay ahead of the game.
Just a thought from the lone ranger:
      Gabe

        RE: V7 Feature/enhancements?

        On 1-12-05, Aaron Brown stated:

Version 7 will have full client-server support for ODBC and several other data sources, such as MySQL, Oracle, and others.

        Is this still the plan?

Will Version 7 restore the ODBC connectivity which was removed in Version 6?

Also, Richard, is there any more thought to providing an ODBC / ADO connection to "attach" rather than "import" Access tables?

            Thanks,

I saw the current state of the new browse today and while it still has a way to go, I think it will meet or exceed everyone's expectations.

As for charting before the browse, it comes down to a matter of resources. We are very serious about fixing the browse for customers, but as mentioned above, it is a very large amount of work and not everyone here is qualified to work on it. The addition of the charting was a much simpler project and was done without any work on the part of the folks working on the browse. Charting in no way whatsoever has delayed the compeletion of a new browse.

Marketing is working on a complete list of features that will be available in V7. "Worth the price" is of course quite subjective. Nothing has been finalized so I can't comment specifically on how much it might be sold for, but I think you'll find the pricing of V7 attractive.

I would love to know this also. I find that the current browses have a mind of their own and are driving me insane. I set the properties how I want but when I go back my settings are gone.

Please let us know the status.

                Thanks
