RE: Windows Scripting Error
Greg:
First of all: make sure you do not have a virus or a worm in your system. That would be your primary concern, why?
The Windows Scripting Host (WSH) is a feature of Microsoft Windows operating systems that enables .vbs files to run in Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and Windows 2000.
VBScript files are plain text files with a .vbs extension, that can be edited using any text editor, such as Notepad. They contain a set of instructions that are run when a user executes the file.
The Windows Scripting Host (WSH) enables users to automate tasks in Windows by providing access to the Windows shell, file system, registry, and more. If you are not using nor anticipate to use it, you might be better off blocking it or removing it alltogether as it is a target for viruses and worms.
Common worms are VBS.LoveLetter.A and VBS.NewLove.A , which enabled the virus writer to automate actions that ran a direct script execution without end-user intervention.
It is not unusual to get a message indicating that you need to install WSH after you install a new software, even if you have installed it previousely. To check to see if WSH is installed on your system:
1-From the Windows taskbar, select Start|Settings|Control Panel.
2-In the Control Panel screen, double-click the 'Add/Remove programs' icon.
3-In the Add/Remove Programs window, open the Windows Setup tabbed page. Select 'Accessories' and double-click.
4-In the Accessories list, find 'Windows Scripting Host'.
