the following code runs ok

dim LastNmae as c
dim FirstName as c

LastName="smith"
FirstName="jim"

dim http as P
http = http_get

dim LastNmae as c
dim FirstName as c

LastName="smith"
FirstName="jim"

dim http as P
http = http_get("http://www.sheriff.org/apps/arrest/index.cfm/lname="+LastName+"&fname="+FirstName+"&RecsToDisplay=25")
a5_show_html(http.body)

when i change it to

dim LastNmae as c
dim FirstName as c

LastName="smith"
FirstName="jim"

dim http as P
http = http_get_page2("http://www.sheriff.org/apps/arrest/index.cfm/lname="+LastName+"&fname="+FirstName+"&RecsToDisplay=25")
a5_show_html(http.body)


I get the following error

why does it cut off name from lastname?

It's not cutting off "name" from lastname. It is simply showing the first bit of the line where the error occurs. The key piece of this message is variable type mismatch.

If you take a closer look at the documentation, you'll see that http_get() returns a P,, while http_get_page2() returns a C. Since you have http dimmed as P, assigning the C value returned from http_get_page2() will fail.

ok I changed the variable type and it seems to execute but does not send anything to the server. Nothing going out the port.

Then I shortened lastname to last and dim as p, it seems to execute. I don't understand.

Since you initially changed the

dim http as P

to

dim http as C
then the http is no longer a pointer and it has no dot variable subelements so the rest of the portion should be

http = http_get_page2("http://www.sheriff.org/apps/arrest/index.cfm/lname="+LastName+"&fname="+FirstName+"&RecsToDisplay=25")
a5_show_html(http)'.body removed here

Out of curiousity John, why are you trying to switch from http_get() to http_get_page2()?

I thought it would use ie ver 6 cookies. It turns out that will not solve my problem. I am now trying to figgure how to satisfy a java script on one site and a cgi script on another. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, it will use IE's cookies. If you tell us more specifically about what the Javascript and CGI require, I or someone else can try to help you meet those needs.
