    Default Export to XML

I hope I'm not repeating a previously posted question, but I need to export a table to XML format. I saw a previous post that said to use "TABLE.XML_EXPORT()" but I'm not sure how that works.

I tried the standard Export Operation Genie, and saw no option to export to XML. Am I missing something?

There is no export to XML operation. table.xml_export() is documented at http://support.alphasoftware.com/alphafivehelp/Methods/TABLE.XML_EXPORT().htm

I see the info, but I'm not well versed enough to see how to do it. It this a calculation of some sort? If so, does it only convert one field, or can the whole table be exported to XML?

(Do you have a example of how to export it to XML for idiots? LOL)

    Hi Ricahrd

The code below would export all fields in the test table to a xml file.

    table.xml_export"d:\test.dbf", "d:\test.xml", "*", "", "", .f., .f.)

I've seen the export for taking information from a dbf file,
Is there a way to customize this for a mssql connection, grabbing the information and creating xml formatted file?

    table.xml_export("customer", "c:\customer.xml", "*", "lastname > 'A'", "firstname", .f., .f.)

    Thanks

    Patrick,
I do not know if there is a direct way to do as you want, but you could first grab your data from the sql (import, append, etc) and then, once in a dbf table, export as xml. Maybe someone who knows more of sql side knows a direct approach but seems doable regardless am thinking using the above.

See the 'code archive' section of this forum. I submitted a 'generic xml export' routine that will do what you want, or close.

    I will take a look. But doesn't:
Looks like this function is pretty good at taking db info and making an xml file.

data = cn.ToXML(sqlStatement) work as well?
    ? data

I think at the moment the the streaming of data back to the a5w page could be achieved through passing url parameters. The url properties could be reconstituted and mapped to a series of table columns and then an insert or updated could be done in the db.

    Thanks

    John,

use FORUM button to get to top level of message board, and then scroll down to a group of forums called "Other forums".
