Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report w/extra detail records

I cannot figure out how my report has bogus records listed in the detail section. The report is based on a SET with all parent records showing regardless of child count. Child records are filtered, lets say "JobStatus=XYZ". In situations where there are no matching child records, my report has an arbitrary number of detail lines. Where child records do exist, the report is perfect. Even if I remove ALL objects from the detail section of the report, it still produces X blank lines.

As an example, let's say one Parent record has 5 child records with Status=DONE. The SET used in the report filters out all child records with Status=DONE. The report in this case might have 3 blank detail lines, or 12, or something else, but not 5 and not zero as it should be.

    Steve:
This has to do with the composite records developed by alpha for the purpose of the report. There were quite a bit of entries on this subject on the board. I am not able to point you to a specific one, but with some search as well as the help file, you will find your answer.

Is the query on the child table alone, or is it cross-level?

        RE: Report w/extra detail records

        Hello Steve,

What does the set structure the report is based on look like? If there are other child tables, even if you don't have any fields on the report, it can cause the blank lines as it interates through the records. You can get rid of these pretty easily if this is what is causing them.

          RE: Report w/extra detail records

Tom - The SET has a child filter and the report has a entry for Select Records based on a parent filter.

I removed the child filter from the SET, only one blank record shows up (previously there were 3-12 blank records. My child filter was:

          filter = C="A" .OR. C="H" .OR. C="R"

If I change my filer to C="A" (remove two) it does not change the number of bogus blank records. But again, if I remove the filter altogether, there is only one blank record.

I found other posts on the subject, but have not yet been able to apply a filter that fixes this.

              Steve:
I do not think the problem is in the filter... you need to insert a group, most likely based on C
