Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    countdown control

    Hello

    I would like to have a control of a form that counted down to zero from an adjustable amount which i know is easy with looping code. But i would like it to be connected to time. Accurate to the computer clock. So I could set the timer for 2 mins and the count down would show min and seconds till zero and the another event would trigger.

    Any hints or even if this is possible would be appreciated

    RE: countdown control

    Forms have ontimer events which should handle what you want.

    Open form in design mode, right click on form, choose Events, OnTimer...
    There can be only one.

      RE: countdown control

      Hello Malcolm,

      I did a count down xdialog box that I believe shut down Alpha Five at the end of the count down. Of course you could make it do whatever you wanted. It was done is response to a message board question I believe from Martin Cole. It might be in the code archives, as I believe Martin spruced it up a bit and posted it there. A form control would be very easy to do with the same logic.

      Good luck,

      Jim

        Thanks for the code

        I've got a dialog box that has my count down timer on to it.
        How to I trigger the start of the timer with the click of a button on that dialog. At the moment the timer starts automatically when the dialog is opened.

        Regards Malcolm

          RE: countdown control

          Show us your code, and tell us whether and how you're using the OnTimer event for the form. It may be simply a matter of conditioning the commencement of your loop on the value of a variable. You could set the variable one way when the dialog opens, and set it another when the right button is pushed.

            RE: countdown control

            Im goin to try this one point at a time

            this is for a xdialog script
            dim cnt as N
            cnt = 1

            ui_modeless_dlg_box("{INTERVAL}",""%dlg%
            {timer=increment}
            {interval=.05}
            (progress=50cnt}
            "close";
            %dlg%,""%code%
            if a_dlg_button = "increment" then
            cnt = cnt + 1
            if cnt = 100 then
            cnt = 1
            end if
            end if
            if a_dlg_button = "close" then
            ui_modeless_dlg_close("{INTERVAL}")
            end if
            %code%)

            what i woulld like tis to do is stop when it reaches 100 not reset it self to 1 anf for the dialog to stay open so that i can start it up again with another button.

            there are some other things i would like to do but lets just start here please

            Malcolm
