Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Confused about using DLL's

I am tryining to use the AztecWin32.dll.

I have tried to decrypt the xbasic methods to access it, but
I seem to be getting stopped right off the bat with

    "Error, couldn't find external function".

Whenever I compile or try to save.

I've verified the dll is in C:\WINDOWS\System32 as well as in the A5v6 directory.

    Below is my current code:

    Dim HandleTilde As L

    declare AztecWin32 AztecEncode C(Message)I(Mode)I(CorrectionLevel)I(PreferredFormat)I(Rune)L(HandleTilde)L

I've attached the pdf for the AztecWin32.dll

    Assistance is appreciated.

    TIA,
    Melvin

      RE: Confused about using DLL's

      Hi Melvin,

The error message tells: Error, couldn't find external function. This means that it sees the DLL but not the function in the DLL. In this case I expect that the function name is not correct. Sometimes in WinAPI there is an Capital A added to the name. I think this distinguises the 16 bit function from the 32 bit function.

Can you supply the DLL and tell me more specific what you want to do?

      Regards,

      Marcel

        RE: Confused about using DLL's

        Just some unstructured thoughts:

Tell me how do you get to this result? I count 13 parameters in your Xbasic code. The sub only asks 6 parameters.

        declare AztecWin32 AztecEncode C(Message)I(Mode)I(CorrectionLevel)I(PreferredFormat)I(Rune)L(HandleTilde)L

        The VB code says:
Private Declare Sub AztecEncode Lib "AztecFont.dll" _
ByVal Message As String, ByVal Mode As Integer, ByVal CorrectionLevel As Integer, _
ByVal PreferredFormat As Integer, ByVal Rune As Integer, ByVal HandleTilde As Boolean)

The above sub does not return a value....

All parameters are passed ByVal. This means that only information is passed through and there will be no changes made in data on these parameters. If it was called ByRef than there would be some changes(?) in returned data.

        Regards,

        Marcel

          RE: Confused about using DLL's

          Marcel,

Thank you. I traced the main problem to the fact I was referencing the wrong ,dll.

          The correct dll is AztecWin32.dll.

I've attached the .zip with it and some "examples".
Now the problem is, the examples are only for
          C_Sharp, Visual Basic, VB_Net or VC++.

Not only that, but I need to output to a file, whereas the examples only
show going to display or printer.

            Melvin,

Do you have a working version in Xbasic that prints or put it on screen and that can be changed into a file storing version?

I don't have a working version in xbasic. If I did, then I would not need this post.

                    Melvin,

I got it working with a 30-day trial version in VBA-Word, see attachment. You can write to a file in WMF or BMP format, put it on the clipboard or print it.

The second step is converting these external function calls to Xbasic.

                          Hi Melvin,

I think you can better use the ActiveX version and drop the dll version. That's lot easyer.
