Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dr. Wayne's script

    Since I moved offices I can't find Dr. Waynes book that came out with Version 5. He had a script that would let you open every form, and modify the code for objects.

    What I'm trying to do is open every form, and parse the code in "canexit" and "onkey" and if the "onkey" code, for example, doesn't already contain certain text, add it.

    But for the life of me, I can't find the tools to do it. Messing around I came up with the following:

    a5_layout_design("[email protected]","form")
    text=""%code%
    ui_msg_box("","")
    %code%
    :getdates.code.onkey=alltrim(:getdates.code.onkey) + crlf() + text

    this works if I manually save and close it - but if I add the following:

    sys_send_keys("{^s}")
    sys_send_keys("{^s}")
    :getdates.close()
    end

    it closes but doesn't save. I don't think this is ideal code for what I'm trying anyway.

    does anyone by any chance have a script snippet that addresses opening the form via xbasic, modifying, and then saving and closing it. I know when I open the form in design, it has to have the open option to disable oninit and onactivate

    RE: Dr. Wayne's script

    Hello Martin,

    I was helping someone else on this forum a while back, modify all forms to put in event code. I discovered that modifying event code via xbasic caused changes to a form's size and windows mode. After processing the form doesn't display. Attached is the routine I came up with, which stores the properties that are changed, modifies the event code, then restores the properties and saves the changed form. This is a simple script to address one user's need. It was not meant to be a 'published' routine, but check it out, it may be what you are looking for and it works for the simple testing that I did with it.

    You'll have to change the code to check and write for your purposes, but the structure should be here for you.

    Good luck,
    Jim

      RE: Dr. Wayne's script

      Jim, this is exactly what I was looking for.

      I recall Bill P was having some difficulty back when V5 first came out until they added the load/view option to disable auto processing for oninit and onactivate.

      frm = form.load("customer", "SCRIPT_DISABLE_EXEC")

      I'll experiment with adding that load option and see if it has any effect on not wiping out the current "window" options.

      Thanks a million.

        RE: Dr. Wayne's script

        Jim, here is a practical example I came up with.

        I haven't done so yet, but I intend to come up with an amended version where I would iterate through all the forms events, all the forms objects, and on at least the buttons' onpush and the embedded browses' onrowdoubleclick events implement the resetpasswords script.

        When you have 100+ forms, it could be a major lifesaver!

        'passwordsreset
        on error goto errors
        vForms = a5.Form_Enum(2)
        vNumber = line_count(vForms)
        onk=0

        NewPassword=ui_get_text("Enter", "New Password","","")
        if alltrim(newpassword)=""
        end
        end if

        NewPassword="'password " + newpassword
        'NewPassword="'password " + rand_string(10) 'for a runtime version - very dangerous!!!!!
        dim vForm_Height as n = 2
        dim vForm_Width as n = 2
        dim vWindow_Height_mode as c = ""
        dim vWindow_Width_mode as c = ""
        dim vWindow_allow_maximize as l = .t.
        dim vWindow_allow_minimize as l = .t.
        dim vWindow_allow_resize as l = .t.
        dim vWindow_has_caption as l = .t.
        dim vWindow_has_system_menu as l = .t.

        for i = 1 to vNumber
        vFrm = word(vForms,i,crlf())
        f=form.load(vFrm, "SCRIPT_DISABLE_EXEC")
        f.Command("system_design")
        vForm_Width = f.form_width
        vForm_Height = f.form_height
        vWindow_Height_mode = f.window.height_mode
        vWindow_Width_mode = f.window.width_mode
        vWindow_allow_maximize = f.window.allow_maximize
        vWindow_allow_minimize = f.window.allow_minimize
        vWindow_allow_resize = f.window.allow_resize
        vWindow_has_caption = f.window.has_caption
        vWindow_has_system_menu = f.window.has_system_menu

        if word(f.code.onkey,1,crlf())=newpassword
