Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Select Records (In Report section of the Control P

    I am a new user of Alpha 5 V6.
I have 5 plants (Plant ID, Name, Cost, Number) in a table called Plant Inventory - it is in a set under Invoice.
In the Detail section of a Report Editor I wish to place the details of plants 1,2 and 3 (it's an invoice). I have tried to mark them but how do I create a filter to select them? I have tried many ways but none of them work - perhaps I am going about the selection in the wrong way.
I would be grateful for some help.
    Thank you, Rosemary Anderson

RE: Select Records (In Report section of the Contr

      Rosemary,

Open your report in design mode, select report, select records. Here you can create your filter expression using the genie if you would like. Your filter could be number="1" .and. number="2" .and. number="3" (this is assuming your number field is a character field and number is your field name for the plant number.

If you are still unable to figure it out, zipping your db as Keith sugggests and providing us with detailed steps, the report name, etc so that we can see what you have would be the best way to get further assistance.

      Good luck

Perhaps it is a question of terminology.

In a report based on either a set or a single table you do not "place the details of plants 1,2 and 3". You should place the fields of the plant record in "the Detail section of a Report" and then construct the filter for the report so that the desired records appear the report.

In other words, you might place grower number, description,, color, etc in the detail section. When the report is printed you will see one detail line printed for each record selected by the filter.
        There can be only one.

Thank you for your help - I have made some progress (after what you suggested, I had already tried so it made me have a look at the invoice set I was doing the report from where there were some problems to correct) but I am still having problems.
I enclose a copy of the simple database. The invoice report seems to work when I use a 'group' - but when I use a report format without that I cannot get the either the address to show in the print preview or the plant details in the 'Detail' section. I have tried using, Clients-"Id_Client="C0001" .AND.
Plant_Selling_Price-"Client_Id="C0001". One or other works by them selves (In the group setting I did not needed to use either). I come up with 'no pages in layout' which I have come to recognize as the database not liking what I have done.
I must be making a silly mistake I am sure - but I do need help!
          Thank you, Rosemary Anderson

              Rosemary,

Please forgive me, but more details would be helpful. You have two reports. Please tell us which report we need to look at, what part of the report is giving the incorrect results. As much detail you can provide will save us a ton of time and make it a lot easier to assist you.

              Thanks

                Rosemary,

Your set is wrong. Your data is in the plant inventory table and that is not included in the set. It will take some time for me to look at this, probably will not be able to get to it until tomorrow.

                Good luck

                  Rosemary,

Your set is fine. The problem was with your grouping. I have re-designed invoice5 report. Please review attached zip, I believe it gives you what you are looking for.

                  Good luck

I set the group by id_client, I moved your report header fields to the group header. No filter is needed. I set the properties of the Group Properties, Region, start each group on new page.
