Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Copying a MS Word Doc to A5

I checked the threads, tutorials and A5 help and can not find this subject specifically.
I simply want to copy an already created MS Word doc to the A5 Letter writer. I do not want to mail merge using Word.
The MS Word doc, as a twist, contains footnotes. I don't know if A5 letter writer will handle the footnotes. I have fired up the A5 Letter writer while using the appropriate database. I could completely enter the letter manually but I would like to learn if there is a method to just wholesale copy to the A5 letter writer.
When I attempt to copy and paste the letter from MS word to A5 it just does not appear copied in the letter writer.
    What am I doing wrong?

    One way is to

    create a blank letter
remove the rtf object automatically created
    insert an ole object
double left click on the ole object, word will open to a blank document
use the word menu to open the document to import
    copy the document
    close the document
paste the content into the empty Word document window
    close word
adjust ole object size as necessary
    There can be only one.

      Bob:
"" When I attempt to copy and paste the letter from MS word to A5 it just does not appear copied in the letter writer. ""
Stan's method should work just fine, or you could do this:
When you create the new letter, I am not sure how you are trying to copy& paste, but if you simply click paste, that won't work. You need to create either a text or better an RTF object in the letter, click into that object then paste.
""I don't know if A5 letter writer will handle the footnotes""
Yes. In the letter properties, in the letter tab, check the appropriate box.

Thank I will try the OLE method but...
would you know why once copy an MS Word doc into the rtf letter body object it behaves in a peculiar manner.
i.e. I tab up to the letter head rtf and the content of the rtf changes format (shifts)or misaligns and if I tab back highlight and then mouse click back to a text cursor all looks find again.
Finally if I do a print letter preview the preview only will appear in the contorted format not the corrected. Although as click to perform the print preview the letter looks fine.
Baffling (maybe hidden MS Word doc formating eccentricities.
Lastly in rtf object mode I notice no matter how the A5 letter is highlighted, any formatting change happens to the entire object. i.e. Highlight one line to align right click Align right and the whole rtf is aligned right.

          Thank Gabe
I had tried just as you instructed, right from my first try.
But I was incorrectly stretching the text object onto the letter body which I did not open up fully.
Read my post above to Stan as to A5 letter formatting behavior.
Any ideas as to why I am getting the odd formatting.

Sorry, Don't know any more than I posted. I don't use rtf objects or letters. Just had experimented as outlined.

              Bob:
MS Word will insert codes at end of the line (hard enter),
spaces etc. that might interfer with your RTF.

Paste/copy will not give you an exact replica of your Word document, unless all other settings are exactly the same which is hardly the case. It will only save you a lot of time in not having to re-type the entire document. You still have to do some adjustments to your alpha letter allignments and design.

You might want to save your Word docment as a text document first, then copy/paste. This might eleminate the majority of these issues you are encountering.
