Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: YTD Totals

    Cheryl:
The total showing on my report is the correct total. the total showing on Keith's form is wrong. Check the payments I added for 2004. Keith's total on the form included those when it should not have !!

      RE: YTD Totals

I just opened Tom's file: now go to the row where the date is 12/15/2004 and print the report. What do you get for the YTD ??? I do not think you want that !!

        RE: YTD Totals

        Gabe,

The YTD is exactly what we want it to be. There is only one record in 2004 so the ytd will be the same as the detail. Your report YTD is showing the totals of all the records, regardless of which date is selected, that is not what we are looking for.

Tom's db gives us exactly what we want for ytd totals for every record selected in the sample browse. Sorry if I am unable to explain what we need for ytd so that you understand it better.

        Thanks
        Cheryl

          Cheryl:
You need to take a closer look. For the sake of simplicity, I made all the payments $1
You will see there are 7 entries, 5 for the year 2005 and 2 for the year 2004.
Keith YTD show the total as $7 when it should be $5.
My report show the YTD for 2005 as $5 which is the correct amount !! I understand exactly what you wanted now. you simply wanted a pay stub. This is it.

            RE: YTD Totals

Sorry, I attached the wrong file.
Go to any date in 2005 and print the report, you will see the YTD as $5
Go to any date in 2004 and print the report, you will see the YTD as $2 which is the correct amount for 2004.

              RE: YTD Totals

              Gabe,

$5 is not the correct total if you select 2/28/05. The correct YTD for 2/28/2005 would include the following records:

              1/31/2005
              2/28/2005
              2/01/2005

It should not include 3/1/2005 or 3/31/2005 as those dates have not yet happened as of 2/28/05.

If I select 1/1/2004 I get the total for 1/1/04 and 2/1/04 which is also incorrect. You are also showing the date of 2/1/04 on the report and it should be 1/1/2004 which is the date I selected.

Please trust me when I say that Tom's sample is accurately reflecting a pay stub with the correct ytd totals for that particular calendar year as of the date selected.

              Thanks
              Cheryl

                OK:
""It should not include 3/1/2005 or 3/31/2005""
I did include those dates, since YTD as I know it to be means payments up to today's date. It could be easily modified to be up to the date on the row selected, but I do not think there is any sense of doing any more modifications since you've got what you want.
