Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UI_GET_FILE

I'm having a problem with the following code:

    dim vfileList as C
vfileList = ui_get_FILE("Select The .TXT File or Files to Be Imported", "(*.TXT)","","ME")

    ui_msg_box("vFileList",vfileList)

I'm using a new Dell Dimension 8400 computer with 1 gig of ram and windows XP home.

When I run the above code and I only select one file, the vFilelist returns "".

As long as I select more than one file, the results are correct.

Make sure you have the latest build. This was corrected in the later builds, but I don't know which one had the change.

I do have the latest build, it came out yesterday.

      1553-2044

I'm a little concerned now because I ran the same command in a5v5 and a5v6 and I ended up with different results.

It looks like this command is not portable between v5 and v6

        RE: UI_GET_FILE

        Ron,

If you are using the optional Exist_Code ME, that's apparently intended for use with V6 only. Check the help file.

I don't have difficulty selecting a single file with build 1553_2044:

        vfilelist = ui_get_file("Testing","*.*","","M")
        ?vfilelist
        = "C:\DOCUME~1\Test1\Desktop\NOTEPA~1.LNK"

        vfilelist = ui_get_file("Testing","*.*","","ME")
        ?vfilelist
        = C:\A5Databases\ForAlLenkner\Building.DDM

Notice I used M once and ME the other time. Both work in V6.

I haven't tested both with V5, but the help says ME is for V6, so...

          RE: UI_GET_FILE

I'm doing all my developmental work in a5v6 with the latest build.

The help file says when using a5v6, use the "ME" augument to select multiple files using the standard Windows file select dialog box. This I have done. However, if I only select one file, the result is "".

Selecting just one file using "ME" gives this:
          ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","ME")
          = ""

Selecting multiple files using "ME" yields this:
          ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","ME")
          = F:\
          ProblemImportScript.txt
          ObjectExport.txt
          ObjectImport.txt

Selecting just one file using "M" gives this:
          ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","M")
          = "F:\ ObjectExport.txt ObjectImport.txt ProblemImportScript.txt"

Selecting multiple files using "M" yields this:
          ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","M")
          = "F:\ ObjectExport.txt ObjectImport.txt ProblemImportScript.txt"

On my computer, I'm having trouble selecting just one file while using the "ME" argument in a5v6.

My question, Does anyone else have the same results or does the "ME" augument work on your computer.

I made a mistake it the interactive window results in the previous post. This is correct.

Selecting just one file using "ME" gives this:
            ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","ME")
            = ""

Selecting multiple files using "ME" yields this:
            ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","ME")
            = F:\
            ProblemImportScript.txt
            ObjectExport.txt
            ObjectImport.txt

Selecting just one file using "M" gives this:
            ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","M")
            = "F:\ObjectImport.txt"

Selecting multiple files using "M" yields this:
            ?ui_get_file("Testing","Text(*.TXT)","","M")
            = "F:\ ObjectExport.txt ObjectImport.txt ProblemImportScript.txt"

Odd. I just ran the same test in 1553-2044 in Alphaspots and got the following

              ?ui_get_file("Test","*.*","","ME")
              = C:\Program Files\A5V6\Samples\AlphaSports\User.Dbf

              ?ui_get_file("test","*.*","","ME")
              = C:\Program Files\A5V6\Samples\AlphaSports

I have no idea what the problem is but:

                My notebook computer works properly.
I uninstalled a5v6 from my desktop,
did a disk defrag, and reinstalled a5v6.
I installed the latest update which is the same one I use for my notebook.

And I still have the exact same problem. UI_GET_FILE works fine as long as I select more than one file. If I only select just one file, UI_GET_FILE returns "".

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

                  Ron,

I'm unable to duplicate your results here. The "ME" option works fine with a single file selected.

Since this option uses a special control supplied by Microsoft, maybe you have a glitch in your operating system's files.

                  I'm using XP SP2
