The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines

The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
  • Be professional in your conduct
  • Be kind to others
  • Be constructive when giving feedback
  • Be open to new ideas and suggestions
  • Stay on topic


Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
  • Spam.
  • Vulgar language.
  • Quotes from private conversations without permission, including pricing and other sales related discussions.
  • Personal attacks, insults, or subtle put-downs.
  • Harassment, bullying, threatening, mocking, shaming, or deriding anyone.
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
  • Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.
  • Encouraging of others to engage in the above behaviors.


If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
  • Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
  • Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
  • Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
  • Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.


Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.

Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.

Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.

The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.

Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.



Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Whats wrong here

    I hope i can get the photo to show this.

    I have a strange problem.
    Using the contact manger addon everything was working fine and then it started doing something strange the Appointments started to not work right but i did not change any part of it.

    It says some erraor with the name.

    What is strange is when looking at the Appointments window you can see it has a Full Name area but when you look at the Appointments DBF it dose not have a Full Name area how can that be.

    I can not find place anyware that has a set up for the Appointments to have a Full Name.

    What am i missing? why did it quit working?

    Not sure what is happening to your database as you do not describe what the problem you are having, in what way is it acting strange? What error message are you getting with the name?.

    The form you are showing is made up of a set of databases the main DBF appointments and child databases of people and personal so you can see on the form any field in these databases. The database people will have the field full name and company the database appointments will only have the fields that you are showing.

    I maybe that the link between the set has somehow changed. for the set Appointment-people and check the link between the databases is as attached.

        Here is another image of it.

        What is happening is when i look at the Appointments window it is stuck on showing that same information all the time.
        It will no longer show all the appointments only the same 3 show up every time not the complete list of them.
        The Reminders works right every time showing me the complete list and letting me click on one to go to it.

        Also another strange thing is i have a search button on the main interface you can not see it in the photo but when i click on it the search window pops up and i can do the search but when it finds the new file the button is now gone from my interface so i can not do any more searches.

        I did try the repack and it did not help.
        I had the contact manger working great and then this just started happening with out me changing anything.

            Sounds like there is a filter/query locked in. Try ctrl + w to show all the records.

              ctrl-w will not work it looks like it try's the interface jumps a little when i do it but it did not work.

              It dose work on my main interface page so the ctrl-w is a good thing to know thanks

                Ed,

                Zip up the db and attach it here. Provide us with detailed exact steps to see what you are seeing. This will make it a lot easier for us to attempt to find a resolution for you. Up until now we are just guessing.

                  Ok here is the zipped up file. I do not think the background i am using is included as i did not do the add to folder thing yet for that.

                  Here is what is going on. The appointments seem to be working again but other strange things are going on now.

                  Open up the Contacts or the Contact Manger Form.

                  click on the appointments button and then select a customers from the pop up list to go to like Simon Melvin.

                  Now go to the appointments tab and for Simon you will see three appointments if you click on each on you will see different text in the notes box for each one.

                  The problem is some of the time when you click on the different appointments the text in the notes box will not change to the text notes for that appointment.

                  If you go back and click on the appointments button and keep selecting different dates of Simon and then try the different dates in the appointment tab most of the time it locks into just showing one set of notes and will not show the other notes for the other days when selected. This would be a big problem if i would think no notes are included for a date when they just did not show up.

                  You can do the same with the Reminders button and then go to the Activities tab and this works great every time with out problems.

                  Other things i could use help with are the upper left Contacts search by box. I can not get it to work.
                  I would like to add a box under it so you can pick the search by and then enter a name or date in a new box with a go button to do the search.

                  The biggest thing i can not understand and i need to do is add invoicing into this to be able to keep track of orders and print receipts and invoices and be able to take payments and a deposit amount and have it keep track of the deposit and then the payments.

                  I have tried to move the Pay entree ADD-ON in but i can not get it to merge into this at all.

                  Any help would be great

                      If you look at that form, you will see it has a calculated "full_name" field.

                      Works ok for me, might be an index or resynch issue.

                        So i have to much going on in one area my main window and i guess this will slow things down.

                        I do want to have a full view of each customers including notes but i will look into making some of the other tabs not be tab's and be a pop up window on their own.

                        I wanted to make it easy to use all in one place with out leaving the main window.

                        I wish i could see a lot of examples of different data bases to give me a better plan on what to do.

                          It's not a matter of too many things causing a slow down. It's just that it is too complex. You are trying to get too many things done in one form.

                          I wish i could see a lot of examples of different data bases to give me a better plan on what to do.
