Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Fetching at a particular Level in a set

I have a set and how do you determine Levels? The numbers is one way the Letters is another way to look at the level.
    System 1 or A
    |-" Tables 2 or B
    |-" Fields 3 or C
    | |-" Type 5 or D
    |-" Form 4 or E
    |-" Programs 6 or F
    |-" Buttons 7 or G
    |-"Programs 8 or H

    The Letters equal A=1, B=2,,H=8
I want to be able look up a form and see if it uses a startup program(script) and what buttons are used and the script they use.

    Thanks

RE: Fetching at a particular Level in a set

Fetching in a set refers to whether you fetch through records at the parent table level or one of the child tables. It has nothing to do with the objects you list.

You can obtain information through xbasic about the objects you mention but there is already a program written that will document your database.
    There can be only one.

        Edward,
I have been working with the 'Fetching at a Paticular Level in a Set' but I wanted it to go to the next record in the Table. It does count the records but it did not display the "next" record on the screen. I used a 'Fetch_first()' and then I used a 'Fetch_Next()'I got a count of 2.
I used 'Tab' in the 1st e-mail this time I used spaces to get the DB to look like I wanted it to, I hope it stays this way.

RE: Fetching at a particular Level in a set

            Philip,

Maybe it's me, but I've read the thread 3x and still have no clue what you're asking. Sorry.

The tables in a set occupy a "slot". You can use the slot number for a table to get a pointer to it when working with the set. i.e. New_ptr = table.current(3) would establish a pointer named "New_ptr" that references the child table in the third slot of the set. Once this pointer is established you can step through the records in that particular child table, within the limits available in the set. so, for example, if there are 6 linked records in this child table you can step through all 6 of them. However, you can't fetch beyond the currently linked records to visit other records in that table.

None of this helps you move through a sorted list of fields, forms, form objects (like buttons), or scripts.

If, instead of slots or levels you're interested in building lists of the various components in your database study the enumeration methods in the help files.
