Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Application Title

How do you change the windows Title Bar so that it displays the name of the appplication instead of "Alpha Five" in the window title & taskbar?

    #2
    RE: Application Title

    For the main application/A5 window:

    A5.Window_Title = "xyz"

You can put it in your autoexec script.

Put a colon (:) in from of what Peter suggested.

Create the autoexec file on the Code tab of the Control Panel.

        RE: Application Title

        Thanks for the help.

I put the following code in an Autoexec script. However, when you open the app, the title bar changes to "MY APP" and then changes back to "Alpha Five"

        :A5.window_title = "MY APP"

I also tried putting this code in the on init event of my main form. Same results

          RE: Application Title

At what point exactly does it change back?
If you don't touch anything does it change back? - or does it change after you perform a certain action?

            RE: Application Title

            Justin,

You can set the title in either the shortcut or in a startup file. I have mine set in the startup file.

Create a text file and add the parameters you want then save it as YOURAPPNAME.startup. My application is DRMS so the startup file is named DRMS.startup. It is in the same folder as the application.

The following is contained in my startup file:

            -TITLE="Digital Record Management System"
            -SPLASH="Splash Screen2.bmp"
            -ICON="DRMS.ico"
            -NOMINMAX
            -NOSYSMENU

I remember the help file stating to make sure there are no spaces in the lines, of course that means outside of the quotes.

                Peter,
I did some more looking at it. Under Database Properties I have checked the box that says

"Maximize the Form (Within the Alpha Five Window)"

If I uncheck this box the title bar is correct. However, as soon as I maximize my form it changes back to "Alpha Five [FormTitle]"

I see it. Looks like a ver 6 bug becasue this doesn't happen to me in v5. File a bug report from the main help menu.

                      Thanks Gabe.
I know about the parentform.window_title that is working fine. The problem is that when I maximize the form my a5.window_title returns to "Alpha Five" instead of "My App"

Did some playing with the .startup file and got it to work properly. Looks much better for the end user!

                          Justin:
""If I uncheck this box the title bar is correct. However, as soon as I maximize my form it changes back to "Alpha Five [FormTitle]"""
Let's assume you got the part about naming your form title right: for example let's say you named your form "Justin".
If the form is not maximized and If the application itself still carries Alpha5 name at the top, when you maximize "Justin" form, the title will read: Alpha5(Justin). That is what it is supposed to do, there is nothing wrong here and no bugs.
If you do not want Alpha5 in the title whatsoever when you maximize the window, then you need to give your Database Application a name other than Alpha5. How do you do that? create a short cut and put the name you want. Let's say you want to call your application: "Faircloth".
When you maxmize your "Justin" form, the title will read: Faircloth(Justin). In other words, in the maximized view, the form name is a sub-name of the application name.
                          Gabe

This appears to be a bug.

:A5.window_title = "Gabe" should show Gabe in the upper left title bar, regardless of maximized or not. So maximized should be: Gabe - [Justin], and restored/windowed mode should be: [b]Gabe. Why should you loose the A5.window_title parameter just because you maxed the form? Doesn't make sense ot me.
