Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need some Multi-Select Help

    Good Morning Group,

    I have used Multi-Select list boxes in my xdialogs and they work great. Thank you Alpha!

    Problem: When I use the advanced formating options like 'font', 'column spacing', 'row coloring' all of that formatting stuff appears in the multi-select output.

    Ex:instead of the output being 'Polinger, John' it is like, See attached Image.

    ?:How do I get rid of the formatting stuff so I can get a link to the correct record?

    Thanks for your help,
    Bill

    Add a {DATA=} owner draw command. Whatever is after the = in the DATA command will show up as the return value.

    {DATA=Walker, Bill}{T=.25}Walker, Bill

    This will return "Walker, Bill" not "{DATA=Walker, Bill}{T=.25}Walker, Bill"

      Thanks Aaron,

      If I add this manually will I loose the ability to modify the xdialog via Action Scripting?

      It's OK if true I can do the coding but it is nice being able to modify the xdialog via the scripting.

      Thanks again,
      Bill

        RE: Need some Multi-Select Help

        It's easy to do if you are using User Defined choices, but you'll have to write a bit of xbasic to add it to a list that is computed automatically. Post the xbasic of the dialog and I can help.

          RE: Need some Multi-Select Help

          Hi Aaron,

          Thanks for showing us how to do this. Here is the xdialog xbasic.

          'Create an XDialog dialog box to prompt for parameters.
          DIM SHARED vcChosen as C
          DIM SHARED varC_result as C
          vcChosen = ""
          auto_list_vcChosen = table.external_record_content_get("volunteer","Vol_Fullname+\"|\"+Vol_Id","Vol_fullname","Vol_assign = Var-"vcOrd_ID")

          Dim format as p
          Format.tab_stops="1.2"
          Format.odd_row_color="White"
          Format.even_row_color="Blue White"
          Format.odd_selected_color="Dark Blue"
          Format.even_selected_color="Dark Blue"
          Format.font="Arial,10"
          Format.font_color_unselected="Black"
          Format.font_color_selected="White"
          Format.lastbutton="OK"
          Format.group_size=1
          Format.number_rows=.t.
          Format.alternating_bands=.t.

          'Apply 'owner draw' formatting information to the list
          auto_list_vcChosen = a5_owner_draw_list_fmt(auto_list_vcChosen,Format)

          temp_count = w_count(auto_list_vcChosen,crlf())
          DELETE a_vcChosen
          DIM a_vcChosen[temp_count] as c
          a_vcChosen.initialize(auto_list_vcChosen)
          ok_button_label = "&OK"
          cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
          varC_result = ui_dlg_box("Volunteers on this Order",""%dlg%
          {region}
          Select the Volunteers Chosen:| [%M;d;O={@@}%.40,20vcChosen^#a_vcChosen];
          {endregion};
          {line=1,0};
          {region}
          "*15=ok_button_label!OK" "15=cancel_button_label!CANCEL"
          {endregion};
          %dlg%)

          Much Thanks,
          Bill

            RE: Need some Multi-Select Help

            Hi again Aaron,

            Just some thoughts. The advanced formating features are great. Makes the dialogs look real professional.

            But, Once you have made your selections and pressed some button does the formating code really need to stay in the Character variable crlf string? Should not the action script version clean up the character variable before completing?

            Then again there might be some reason for leaving the formatting code in there but I just can't think of one at the moment.

            As I said just some thoughts. I am really enjoying my first project using Alpha. It took some time to Think in Alpha mode verses Access mode but once I got over that things started to fall into place. My next job is an Access project. I tried real hard to sell them on Alpha but that will take some time.

            Thanks Again,
            Bill

              Hi all,
              I'm new in Alpha5v7 and I'm designing a browser form with invoice and other stuff. How can I access to the Advance Formating feature for my browser?

              Thanks

                Re: I Need help with the Advance Formating feature.

                This thread is talking about an xdialog script which generates a dialog window. The formatting commands mentioned do not apply when designing a "form" layout.
