Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Keyboard navigation in tabbed subform

    I couldn't find anything on this subject so was wondering if someone knows of a way to go from page to page in a tabbed subform without using a mouse. If there is no built in key combination for this, do you know of a quick way to set something like this up? Thanks.

    Jeff,

    Shift & left or right arrow moves between tabbed subforms.

      Dave,

      Thanks, I'm familiar with that. I should have explained myself more. I'm referring to being within a page, in a field, then wanting to move to the next right or left page. You can arrow up to the tab, then move. I'm just wondering if there's more of an immediate jump that a fast order entry person could use to navigate faster. Let's say you're in the middle of one page and you have no more data to enter there, and you want to jump to the next page to continue entry, and you don't want to pick up a mouse. That's what I'm trying to accomplish.

        Jeff,

        Sorry I misundstood what you were wanting.

        Using AlphaSports, I added two buttons to a tabbed form. On one of the buttons I included this code for the OnPush event:
        Code:
        page = tabbed1.tab_get()
        page = page + 1
        tabbed1.tab_set(page)

        and for the OnPush event for the other button I entered:

        page = tabbed1.tab_get()
        page = page - 1
        tabbed1.tab_set(page)
        The first button goes to the next tab, the second to the previuous tab. The code came directly from the .TAB_OBJECT.TAB_SET() help. Will this do what you want?

          Dave,

          This is really in response to your last message regarding your 2-button setup. For some reason, it wouldn't let me reply to that message.

          What you did is pretty much what I'm looking for, and thanks for that. The main objective is to let a data entry person deal only with the keyboard and not be required to pick handle a mouse. Your solution would need a mouse, or at least the ability to tab to the buttons, and depending upon where they are on the screen, that could be a lot of tabbing. I may think about using your approach but tying it to the pageup and pagedn keys, or something like that.

          Thanks for the input.

            Jeff,

            What does the F6 do if you press it in the middle of a tabbed page? The help file says it goes to the next region.

            Just a thought,

              Jerry,

              F6 doesn't do anything in this context. Going to the next region suggests moving from one embedded browse to another, but by region I don't think it's referring to a tabbed page.

              Thanks.

                  Until/Unless Selwyn rings in with one of his magic fixes, it might be a classic example of 'you can't there from here'.

                    Why couldn't you write some code--same as Dave's buttons--to the form's on_key event? Haven't tried it, though.
