Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Menubar missing

I recently purchased and installed the full developer version of A5v6. When I start up the application, I only get the toolbar and no menubar with the File * View * Tools * Windwo * Bar. I have searched the forum and found no info. Please advise any solution. thanks

    RE: Menubar missing

Dave, the application that you are activating, was it created from scratch in V6 or are you trying to open an application from V4 or V5. I have had problems with V6 when opening an application created in other versions. Missing tool bars, missing fields on forms, crashes. What I have had to do is recreate whatever is messing up from scratch in V6.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. It was a new install and opening/creating a new database. I have tried uninstall/reinstall, reboot, redownloading the install file incase it was corrupt. Still no Alpha5 menubar.

        Dave,

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I am assuming that you are talking about a form in a custom database that you created, rather than one of the samples provided with Alpha.

Open the form in design mode via the Control Panel. In an area on the form that does not have an object on it, right click and select 'Properties' and then click the 'Menues'Toolbars' tab. In the Menus frame, all of the dialogs should say "System Menus". One of them might have been changed to "None".

Thanks again for the reply. But, no I am not talking about a custom menu. The standard system menubar is missing. Even without any database open or the alpha sports demo(after closing the A5 application), or when creating a new database, or when opening one I created on another machine(which works fine), does not work in the new installation.

            Dave,

You got me. I checked the Settings and see nothing that would explain the absence of the menu bar. Hopefully someone smarter than me (not that difficult) can offer a solution.

              Dave

Are you using the standard windows appearance or are you using large fonts or a different background?

Just ideas. I've seen this happen when things don't fit - ie large fonts.

A fix all for some other problems is to delete the registry entries and run Alpha again so it can set the registry entries up again. You'll have to enter the license number again, but you don't have to re-activate.

See attached image of the registry items to delete.

I am having the same problem. Deleting the registry key solved the missing toolbar but not the missing menu. I am using small fonts in 800 x 600 resolution. I also loaded the fix for the aex files that I found in here. Does anyone have any other ideas?
                  Thanks - Robin
