Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Version 6 Upgrade Question

Does anyone know that if I upgrade my Version 5 to Version 6, could I re-load my version 5 back on my PC and have both versions working.

If not would version 5 applications edited by version 6 still work in version 5.

    Thanks for any reply

    RE: Version 6 Upgrade Question

V6 installs into it's own folder. V5 and V6 are both installed on my desktop. Never had a problem

While you can run V5 applications in v6, if you make any format edits in V6 they may not work in V5. V6 has many new features and functions that are not recognized in V5.

        Paul,

As Ken & Jerry said, there won't be any problem with verson 5 & 6 on the same system. However, you would be well advised to duplicate all your application folder currently under V5 and place them under V6. That way, you can 'play' with them under V6 without causing any problem to the V5 version.

          RE: Version 6 Upgrade Question

In fact, if anyone is interested, you can have A4v1, A4v2, A4v3, A4v4, A4v6, A4v7, A5v1, A5v2, A5v3, A5v4, A5v5, and A5v6 all running on the same computer - even at the same time - with no problems.

Re the missing versions: There was no A4v5 (to avoid confusion with the new A5 at that time) and I've never purchased A4v8 but I'm pretty sure it could be run at the same time as well.

Thanks for the info. I have A5v4 and v5 Full and Runtime Licences. I only want to get v6 for my companies web application and it's cheaper to get the upgrade version, so I needed to know if I could still use v5 as v5.

              Paul,

You can use V5 as V5, however, if you are planning a web application, you know it needs to be created using V6.

If you are planning on using the web application with your V5 database, you need to be very very careful. You will be able to access your V5 via the web application, but if you try to use features that are in V6 with your V5 db you will run into problems/errors etc.

If you are not planning on trying to use the web application with your V5 and running that same V5 on the desktop, you will be fine.

                RE: Version 6 Upgrade Question

                Hi Cheryl,

I was intending to get V6 for web applications only. But I didn't want to get the upgrade version from V5 if it wouldn't allow me to still use V5 in it's own right on normal V5 built databases.

                Thanks for the advice.
