Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dynamic browse filter?

    I have a form with three browses -" browse1, browse2 and browse3.

All three browses are for the project_ dtl table, but each
    have only one column.
    ie: browse1 = Room, browse2 = Trade & browse3 = component

What I am trying to do is dynamically filter browse3 so that
when the corresponding row in browse2 is ative, only the
details for that trade are shown in browse3. I have coded
the OnArrive event in browse2 to do this, but I just can't
get it right [brain freeze] :(

I would appreciate some help if you can. I have attached a zip to illustrate. The Database will open to the form in
question which is Project. FYI, var-"v_filter is defined as
a global var in the project_dtl table

One way to do it is to add the child table to itself as (recursive link) in the set - but make the link on the field you want to control the new table - like when you are on browse1 - and the field value in a certain field is "room3" you want the browse based on the new table to show all/only records that have that same field value.

          Martin,

That was a good thought, but I tried it and it doesn't work.
Using that technique, I cannot add any additional records.

What I really need is to just get the script in browse2's OnArrive event to work.

Do you want to add records to project_dtl?

I have a similar scenarion, that runs in a hospital, where a particular patient can have several therapies running concurrently - and as the nurse/doctor scrolls they want to see all concurrent therapies for that patient, with the ability to doubleclick to go to that record.

Okay. Am trying to understand your goal.

I unhid browse 3, so I could get a better perspective

since all three browses are the same, as you scroll roomtype, in browse 1, do you want to see the value of trade in browse2, and component in browse 3

                or

do you want to see some kind of 1 to many in browse 3

                please explain
and perhaps send a better populated sample - with enough records to test for your end goal

                  RE: Dynamic browse filter?

                  To be exact,

Each room (browse1) can have 1 to many Trades.
Each trade (browse2) can have 1 to many components.

So what I need is to
                  A. See only trades (browse2)for a particular room (browse1)
                  when selected and
                  B. See only compontents (browse3) for that trade (browse2)
                  when selected.

                  TIA.

BTW, I'm going to firehouse for blizzard stand-by duty, so
this will probably be my last communication for today.

                    RE: Dynamic browse filter?

would browse1, then, have multiple records for room1

if that is the case, then browse1 might contain many records for room1, each have different combinations of the trade and component.

if this is correct please populate and zip/post a sample with a lot of realistic records - I think it is doable, although I would most likely have used a set with granchildren

                      Melvin,

Since an embedded browse does not accept a filter, I don't see how you can do that (except w. xdialog) if you are using one table as the source. It seems that you would have to use a set. The somewhat labor intensive work around is to mimic a browse using text objects on a form. It's more work, but you can have total control that way.
