subtract dates

I need to get Alpha to show the difference in # of days by subtracting the Estimated mail date from the Seminar date. I thought it would have been a no brainer, but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

That is a lot easier than what I've been using:

Days_Diff = jdate(Date_1) - jdate(Date_2)

For some reason I had the impression I had to convert them into days before doing the math.

So it is ok that the dates are like 01/21/05?

If the date is a character string "01/21/05" and not a date variable, you will first need to make date variables. You can use ctod() for this purpose:

dim chardate1 as c
dim chardate2 as c
chardate1 = "1/21/05"
chardate2 = "12/29/04"
?chardate1 - chardate2
= "1/21/0512/29/04"
'not want you want because the "-" operator bewteen to
'character values trims whitepace and appends them

dim d1 as d
dim d2 as d
d1 = ctod(chardate1)
d2 = ctod(chardate2)
?d1-d2
= 23

It does not matter how the dates look like so long as both fields are date field.
