Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to Automatically Refresh a Form?

I am calling a form that has a tabbed layout. On each tab I have an embeded Active X control that displays various graph data from an A5 table. Unfortunately when I move from tab to tab I need to right click on the graph and tell it to "Refresh Data".

In reading the specs on the ActiveX Control, it talks about being embedded on a web page and the data will refresh automatically when the page opens. How can I get the form to automatically refresh? Is there XBasic code that does this?

Also (A different issue), when we refresh, we get a security notice saying that:

This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you trust this wabsite, click OK to continue, otherwise click Cancel.

This is interesting because we are not on the web.

    Jim,

The only suggestion I have is to use Object Refresh from Action Scripting.

I tried that, unfortunately Alpha doesn't recognize the embedded Active X as objects, it doesn't even show up

        Jim,

Have you looked at OnTabChange? Also there is the ActiveX app in the Samples folder. I'm thinking here that the OnTabChange could make a script run to change the ActiveX object.

Just one question, this is just from making an usumtion. If the ActiveX is runing off data and you are using a different ActiveX on each Tab what needs to be refreshed if the data remains the same.

Havent looked at the onTabChange, but the problem I am having is that Alpha isnt recognizing the ActiveX as even being there. In otherwords when I select the list of objects to refresh, none of the ActiveX charts appear.

As far as assumption, there are 8 tabs, each tab has an identical chart with the only difference being the data that is graphed. We run an operation that creates the data for the graphs prior to displaying the chart, BUT the operation needs to only run once vs 8 times

Does the ActiveX control have a refresh method? If so, you should be able to call it yourself.

              Jim,

Can you post a cut down of your app with the ActiveX control on a form?

I understand that the ActiveX is not in the list of Objects to refresh but is graph not working at all?

RE: How to Automatically Refresh a Form?

                Keith,

Thanks in advance for the help. Attached is a very tuned down version of the application. Unzip it and place on the root dir in a folder called c:\a5.

The control we are using is Microsoft Office Chart 10.0 (owc10.chartspace.10)

We have (2) problems that we are encountering:

                1)When we open the chart we receive a security notice for every chart that is on the page, saying;

This website is using your identity to access the data source. If you trust this website, click OK to continue, otherwise click cancel.

We dont know how to turn this OFF!!!

2)When we change any of the data the table, the ActiveX control does not automatically refresh; Example, if you are on tab 1 and change a TS1 data point to 180, nothing happens until you right click on the active x and select Refresh Data

Optimally, we would like to get this to work automatically, but if not, is there a script we could right that would resolve these issues?

                Thanks again

                  Jim,

I have been unable to open your form.

Please see the attached sample from Alpha and you will see there is more to setting up an ActiveX graph than meets the eye.

Can you open the form at all or does it just not have data?

The form we sent you was designed using the same active X control as the sample in A5.
