Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    trace window error list

The following may not mean that I have a problem, but it's disconcerting !!!
When I edited a form (one of many edits in succession), I
received a notice of errors, and to look at trace window.
When I got there, many errors were listed, so I cleared
everything and closed all windows, then called the form
    from my main menu.
The first 8 error lines were in the trace window on my
initial visit, the last 4 lines were there after I left
    and came back.
Those four lines were at the bottom of a very long list...
As far as I can see, I have no problems with use of the
form, the data being collected or the summary fields
associated with the fields on the form.

I have no idea what it all means.. Where can I go to research
this problem? Do I need to be overly worried about my
    database integrity??

    RE: trace window error list

Tried to make a new form today and that list of 4 errors would not let it happen.
In fact, A5 locked up and almost had to CTL+ALT+DEL to get back to windows....
Apparently there is a major problem with some of the calculated fields.
The db and forms consist of a great number of fields that are calculated and inter-related... ie, one calc fld will be using the results of one or two (or more) other calc flds....

There are also several lookups that fill not only the lookup fld but 3 or 4 additional related flds. eg, master lookup fld may = 30.00 and 4 other fields will be filled with 25.50 for one, 4.50 for a second and 0.45 for another.

Most of the flds in the db are numeric, 3 dates, several logical and a couple character....

If someone can point me in the right direction to solve the problem, it would be appreciated...

I am preparing a zip file in case someone might need it..

      Re: trace window error list

Did anyone ever reply to this message? I am experiencing the same problem with my databases. They were created in V5, work fine there, but when I try to open them in any later version of Alpha5 I get the same message for numerous fields. This occurs before my start up form opens. Some of the calculated fields are based upon a global variable that is set by the user when he/she logs in and exits the start up form.
Any help at all will be appreciated.

        Re: trace window error list

I did some playing around and realized these fields were looking for something that wasn't there. If you open the VIEW the CODE Editor drop down, you then have the option to view Global Variables. Here you can set variables to be Initialized at Startup. I set the variables to a dummy value and my problem went away. The values are reset by the user from the startup form.
I wonder why V5 doesn't need these variables set. Well it worked and now I can go on to bigger things.
