Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Medical LAbels not possible

I tried using the Lables facility to make labels for medications dispnesed to patients but the built in label prgramme is unable to make multiple labels for ONE patient taking different medications.

I had to use the reports to this. While it worked the only snag was that one had to battle to manually size the information to fit on the pre-sized labels

Any ideas (without Xbasic of course)

    Thanks

    Haroon,

As there are going to be many medications to one patient the you would have a set built that way. Your lables would be based on that Set.

With regard to the size of label, youu can design your own lable when selecting, custom size lables.

The next step is to control the font size. That is very straight foward and should not need any explanation. Most medication lables I see these days use point 8. All the fields would be in a RTF.

    Hope this helps.

      RE: Medical LAbels not possible

      Hi Keith

      Thanks for the reply.

I coulkd not get my sets to generate the labels.I even tried reverse sets .This did not work. Possibly because the information is coming from differnt tables.I think the design of the labels in Alfa5 is specifically for mailing lists which mean duplication is cut out.

If you would not mind I can send you the application and you could possibly see if I am donig something wrong ?

      Thanks
      Haroon

        Haroon,

This is very interesting, I have just tried to produce some lables based on the Invoice Set of Alphasports.

I was tring to get a number of lables that match the number of Items on an Invoice. That is one label for each Item, not the same label for the total number of Items.

Unfortunately I was unsuccessful. I did think it was possible but it seems that I was wrong.

Hopefully somebody else may pick this up and we can all learn from this.

          Hi Keith

Thanks for confirming my findings. In reality the labels seem to be designed for "mailing lists" and not for other purposes.

I got around this problem by creating a report and sizing it down. This worked but with the following limitations viz it could not be used with the flexibility of using standard labels and dot matrix printers. It works well with dedicated thermal label printers.

But then life( or Alpha5) is supposed to designed to make things easy ?

          Thanks Haroon

            Keith Haroon

One way to do this would be to create an operation that will join tables into a result table and then create the labels from the result table.
As an example if you use Alphasports and do a join starting with the invoice set and then as a transation table use the item numbers. Save the operation and it can be run from a button each time you want to do the labels.

            I hope this makes sense.
