Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Unzip file

    Hi

    If my zip file requires a password to be unzip would that give me a problem... would it keep alpha five from unziping the file...

    Here is the script I have, it runs fine, but the file is not unziped

    'Find the files to be unziped
    dim file_names[250] as C

    old_directory = dir_get()
    DIR_put("c:\windows\JGN")
    files = filefind.first("*.Zip")
    i = 1
    while .not. files.eof()
    file_names[I] = files.name()
    files.next()
    i = i + 1
    end while
    dir_put(old_directory)
    file_names.sort()
    filename = ui_get_list_array("choose",1,"File_names")

    'Unzip the files in the c:\windows\JGN directory
    file.unzip("filename ", "*.*", "c:\windows\JGN")

    'Import the files
    import_destination_table = filename_decode("c:\windows\JGN\AlphaUno\ordenestbl.dbf")

    import_filename = filename_decode("c:\windows\JGN\'"+lEFT(Filename,8)+"'.txt") this part of the code does not work also, don't know yest if it is because the zip file is not unziped

    thanks

      RE: Unzip file

      file.unzip("filename ", "*.*", "c:\windows\JGN")

      should be

      file.unzip(filename, "*.*", "c:\windows\JGN")

      "filename" passes the name of the file to be unzipped as the character string "filename

      filename passes the variable containing the name of the file to be unzipped
      There can be only one.

        RE: Unzip file

        First, if your zip files are password protected Alpha will NOT be able to unzip them. This is something I'd really like to see a solution to.

        Second, your script could be significantly simplified with some of the newer functions:

        zip_fldr = "c:\windows\JGN"
        file_list = filefind.get( zip_fldr + "\*.Zip", "PN" )
        FOR qx = 1 to line_count( file_list )
        unzip_files( word(file_list,qx,crlf()), "*.*", zip_fldr)
        NEXT

          Thank you

          Than I have to stick with access and not continue, because the person i am doing the program for receives these files with password protection...

          Could I call winzip from alpha five and after that import the files that were extracted...

          Is there a way to call an outside program like winzip to do the job...

            RE: Unzip file

            Yes, you can call Winzip or any other external program. The Xbasic functions are sys_open(), sys_shell() and sys_shell_wait(). You can also do this through action scripting.

              RE: Unzip file

              Thanks I tried that the sys_shell and sys_shell_wait, make winzip create and archive...

              The sys_open is the one that comes closest to what i wan't...
              But the user has to select extract and then put in the password, when there are a lot of zip files it will become a pain...
              and also i have to tell alpha to wait using sleep(20) to give the user time to click on extract and then enter the password before continuing with the code

              I wich alph had an unzip that worked with password protected zip files

                RE: Unzip file

                The full WinZip client that you are trying to use is not really intended to be scripted. Take a look at the WinZip Command Line Support Add-on or other zip utilities.
