I - like many others with no prior QB SDK experience - am trying to select a good set of software tools for my first QB SDK project. Alpha Five v6 gets some excellent reviews as a general database development tool but...
Is anyone actually using the Alpha Five v6 / QODBC / Quickbooks SDK development tool combination? If so, please post your comments. Many praise the power and relative ease of development for Alpha Five but how does it work with the Quickbooks SDK (with or without QODBC)? Any limitations I should know about? How does a finished solution perform? Pros & cons vs. MS Access or other solutions?
IMPORTANT!
Alpha Five had its own dedicated add-on (QLinker) for interface with the Quickbooks' SDK but it seems to have been abandoned with the latest Alpha Five v6 release. Apparently, QODBC will take its place.
The QODBC FLEXquarters site declares: "Alpha 5 is a preferred partner of FLEXquarters.com LLC, and the Alpha 5 software is an excellent choice for end users to develop applications based on the QODBC Driver for QuickBooks. We believe you will be impressed by it's ease of use and flexibility in creating applications without complicated coding."
Other than this statement, I can find HARDLY ANY information on the web from actual users of this tool combo (with or without QODBC). This may be a bad sign. No user base to turn to for tips and tricks is a concern.
I have limited experience and money invested with MS Access but I'll happily abandoned it if Alpha Five v6 / QODBC will help make my development life easier without necessarily degrading the performance of the finished product.
Anyone with first-hand experience? Anyone at all?
