I have been using A5v6 for a couple weeks. I have installed build 1542_2024.
Yesterday I accidentally, briefly, opened my database in A5v5. After that I opened it in A5V6 and started having lots of problems.
Do I need to re-covert my database to A5V6 format? I haven't found anything about this in the help system or on the bulletin board.
The problems I've had include the following:
* Several times I opened my database and immediately got an unhandled exception. The next time I tried to open the database, there was a message fro the Smart Heap Library which indicated: Memory: Bad Pointer.
* Other times I opened my database (though it's taking excessive time: several minutes), double-click a table, which opens. All subsequent tables after the first refuse to open. When I restart Alpha, open the database, double-click a different table, it opens, but no subsequent tables open. Since yesterday, I've never been able to open any table after I've opened one, regardless of which table I opened first.
* I noticed my saved Import operation was not behaving as I expected, so I looked at Design. I noticed that the Existing table was not the one I'd used many times before. I tried to browse to the correct dbf file, but it wasn't on the list (though I can see it in Windows Explorer). Since I couldn't browse to it, I typed it manually. I tried to click the Save button, but nothing happened. I clicked CTRL-S, which worked. I closed Design and reopened it, to make sure my changes were saved. Then I ran the import operation and looked at the resulting table, which included the correctly imported data. Then I closed the database and exited A5V6. When I reopened it and examined the import operation, its contents had reverted to the incorrect version.
* Once I closed my databse and was prompted to save my changes. When I clicked yes, there was an unhandled exception.
What can I do to straighten this out?
Thank you,
Barbara
