Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Xdialog- need a little help please

    I'm toying with xdialog. I have been able to follow examples for the most part in the learning xdialog project.

    But i have run into somethin that i didn't see an example on in there and i have spent the better part of 10 hours pouring through the help file to no avail.

    I have attached a zip file. It has an activity genie i'm writing, and 3 tables attached with sample data from the project.

    On the dialog, near the bottom, i have 2 drop downs. The first one labled distributor works as intended but to make the second work as intended i may need to change the way the first works. What's supposed to happen is when i select a distributor (from the dist table), say Great Western Meats (distrib value from dist table is GWST) it will filter the MA / DSR drop down to only have the records for that distributor (from distreps table, based on distrib)

    Currently it shows all records in distreps. Similarly i need this to filter the Distmgrs table based on distrib + DM_name into a dropdown as above.

    Any ideas, tips suggestions or examples?? Thanks in advance for the help, you guys Rock!!!

    sorry, i don't have time to debug your script, but what you want to is quite common, and in fact the xdialog genie will write the code for you automatically.

    here is an example script that you can place in the sample alphasports database. it demoes what you want to do. the first combo box is a list of vendors. the second listbox is a list of products sold by the selected vendor. it could just as easily be a combo box and not a list box.

    'Create an XDialog dialog box to prompt for parameters.
    DIM SHARED vendorId as C
    DIM SHARED productID as C
    DIM SHARED varC_result as C
    ok_button_label = "&OK"
    cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
    DIM vendorId_rl_def as C
    vendorId_rl_def = "k=vendor,{keylist_build(\"H=.025,1:12[Vendor_Id],2:25[Name]\",''+Vendor_id,left(''+Vendor_id,12),left(''+Name,25))}{}"
    DIM productID_rl_def_orig as C
    productID_rl_def_orig = "kl=product,{keylist_build(\"H=.025,1:12[Product_Id],2:12[Vendor],3:25[Description]\",''+Product_id,left(''+Product_id,12),left(''+Vendor,12),left(''+Description,25))}{Vendor = [varC-"vendorId]}"
    DIM productID_rl_def as C
    productID_rl_def = replace_parameters(productID_rl_def_orig,local_variables())
    varC_result = ui_dlg_box("Alpha Five",""%dlg%
    {region}
    VendorId:| [%@vendorId_rl_def%.40vendorId!vendorId_changed];
    Product Id:| [%@productID_rl_def%.100,10productID];
    {endregion};
    {line=1,0};
    {region}
    "*15=ok_button_label!OK" "15=cancel_button_label!CANCEL"
    {endregion};
    %dlg%,""%code%
    If a_dlg_button = "vendorId_changed" then
    productID_rl_def = replace_parameters(productID_rl_def_orig,local_variables())
    a_dlg_button = ""
    end if
    %code%)

      i should add that this script was generated by the action scripting genie. the key is that when you are defining the record list-list box for the product_id field, you can specify a filter that references the vendor_id returned by the first record-list on the xdialog.
