Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to approach this....

I need to create an application and I would love to get some input about how to approach this task

The main form of the application will have 20 buttons labaled from 1 to 20. Each time one of this buttons is clicked a new record will be created with the corresponding number of the button (ex: 2). The button will change color to red to indicate that that number was already entered in the browser. The same number can not be entered more than once or as long as it is in the browser. If the record is deleted the button will become availble again and change color.
The idea is similar to a resevation of table in a resturant.
Once a table is reserved it will not be available until the customer "release" it (finished dinner). The color red will be used to show with table are available and which not.

Thanks in advance for all the tips and help you can provide!!!

    check the attached file.

    Clipi,

Attached is a working sample of what I believe you are trying to accomplish.

If you take a look at the button's On-Push event, you will see how this works.

    Kindest Regards,

Thanks so much Louis for your sample file.
      Actualy the changing of the color of the button is the easy part the ones which I have the problem with are;

      1) After clicking on the button the script should create a
new record asigning the value of the button name or number
button1 create a record with value 1, buton2 value 2.. so on. The values must be unique.

      2) Button get disable (I guess button1.disable() will do it)
      after record creation.

      3) On errasing a record from the browser, let say record or table 5 (to follow a restaurant example) finished dinner then the button who created that record should be enabled again so that table can be used again.
This is the part I am having problem with, associate the record value with a button name, deletion of record and renabling of button.

      Thanks again!!!!

        RE: How to approach this....

Readig at what you want I think you may need the following table let us call it "Reservations". The fields can be:
        Table C 2
        Status C 1

Table would contain the table numbers "02,03,04...20"
Status would contain "B" for Busy or "E" for Empty

Then you create your form with the 20 buttons naming each button as Table01 Table02 Table20

On the button's onpush event you can create a script that would run a function created by you:
The function would take 1 Argument Character.
This argument would be the table number 02, 09,06,19...

-Open the table "reservations" and verify that argument exists and read record.

-IF the Record Contains an "E"for Empty change it to a "B" for busy and change the color of the button to RED and change the text of the button to Busy.

-If the record contains a "B" then change it to an "E" and change color of button to BLUE and change text to "EMPTY"

        -close table

the script of any of the buttons would look like this:
        Let's say button "Table05":

        Change_Status("05")
        end

*** Have in mind that there are other ways of doing this and I think easier. Like with "two-state-buttons" or even with Check marks.
