Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Converting V4 to V6

    Hi to All

    If so what problems did you run into?

    Thanks
    Nick

    I think this would be similar to the move from 4 to 5. Most everything works but you must test. Sometimes the stuff which didn't work in 5 should not have worked in 4.

    Specifically, array syntax is a bit more exacting in 6 than in 5. There is a thread on this but I cannot recall the title.

      Hi Bill
      The biggest problem I'm having is when I try to edit a xbasic script I get "An unhandled exception will occur and A5 will conviently close" This is a pain because I can't fix the problem are make the change to V6 without being able to edit the many xbasic scripts I use.

      Any Idea's?

      Thanks
      Nick

        Hi Nick,

        It sounds like there is something in the script that might be causing the problem? Do you have this problem with all scripts or just a particular one?

          Hi Cheryl
          All of them. I have them password protected using password foo.
          I was able to look at one that was embedded in a button on a push event. However when I got to 'debug(1) which was commented out it crashed.

          Thanks

            RE: Converting V4 to V6

            Hi Nick,

            How are you trying to edit your scripts? As an example, are you going to the onpush event of the one and opening the code editor, or are you doing something else? If you are able to actually get to your script for editing purposes, copy the script and do your editing outside of Alpha in notepad or textpad (or any other text editor). Then see if you can go back in and it will accept a total paste of the new code.

            I do not know that this has anything to do with the price of rice in China ... but maybe you should try to un-password all of your scripts and see if that allows you to edit without crashing. If so, then edit a script, test it and verify it ... and try to re-password it.

            I would also suggest that you place your scripts in the code library (something I learned here on the board). At least this way it will give you another way to edit the script.

            Just thoughts for you to try to allow you to continue with your conversion.

              I think something went wrong with the install.
              I got the same thing when I went to the help file to look at an example script. I'm going to reinstall.

              Thanks for your help

                  Have you installed the latest 2003 patch? I would assume you have but I always seem to get in trouble when I assume.

                      This may be one of the problems. This was created in v4 and worked great without ever missing a beat but in v6 I get a error stay that the funcation is not found.

                      Code
                      inputf=table.open(:a5.get_path()"\route.dbf",file_ro_shared)
                      recs=inputf.records_get()
                      dim custtype[recs] as c

                      i=1

                      inputf.fetch_first()
                      while .not. inputf.fetch_eof()

                      this code gives the error "custtype(i)=inputf.truck"

                      inputf.fetch_next()
                      i=i+1

                      end while

                      name=ui_get_list_array("Select a Truck",1,"custtype")

                      Thanks for any help

                        Try:
                        custtype[i]=inputf.truck instead of
                        custtype(i)=inputf.truck

                          That fixed it. Also stopped the error message I was getting.
                          Funny you would think V6 would have been able to point this out.
