Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dayton ComputerFest - Opportunity

Richard has agreed to fund an Alpha Software booth/table at the Dayton ComputerFest Sat. Aug. 28 and Sun. Aug 29th. We'll get national radio exposure for Alpha as well as have the opportunity to sell Alpha Five V6 at a reduced price ($219) to conference attendees.

If anyone out there feels comfortable with Alpha 5 V6 and would like to host the Alpha Software booth, show off Alpha 5 V6, be a speaker at the show, perhaps talk about it on the radio (if qualified), and otherwise have a great time at the show, please let me know. If you market anything related to Alpha, you'd be free to sell or endorse your products or services as well.

If you're interested, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Be aware that sending anything to this address will generate a response e-mail that will require you to confirm that you're human before forwarding your e-mail message to me. If you'd like me to call you to discuss, just e-mail me your phone #.

I look forward to hearing from you if this is of interest to you - I hope we can accommodate as many of you as would like to participate and can make it to Dayton that weekend.

    Regards,
    Dave Whittle

    Dave,

It would be great if you could update this post with a report on how this turns out.

      I certainly will!

I'm still hoping to get a response, though - it may not turn out as well as we'd like if I have to do it myself.
      :-)

Isn't Ohio a hotbed of Alpha activity? Even for someone not close to Ohio (like me - I'm flying in from Utah), I would expect some money could be made from selling Alpha-related products or services - especially since Alpha is funding the booth costs. I've made good money on this show twice a year for the past 5 years...

      Thanks,
      Dave

The Dayton show is indeed a big deal. Seemingly stretching for miles when you are carrying a recently purchased monitor and scanner out to the car, as my son and I did 8 years ago when he was in college at Northern Ky. I haven't been there since, but it can only have grown larger. It is the biggest computer show I've seen in this region. I only wish that I felt qualified to help with this as I'm about 2 hours away. Surely there are Cincinnati, northern KY, or Columbus area users.

Can you give us more details on this? Is this Dayton, Ohio?

            RE: Dayton ComputerFest - Opportunity

Yes, it's Dayton, OH, this Saturday and Sunday.

I've lined up a 5-10 minute slot on national (international) radio - Dave Gravelin's Into Tomorrow show.
The person appearing on the show will need only to answer some very basic questions (which you can feed to Dave) about Alpha Five V6 and what it is and who it's for. If no one else volunteers, I'll have to do it myself - the downside to that is that I'm already appearing on a separate slot for my other clients, and Dave doesn't like to have the same person on twice, no matter how good they are. :-)

The Alpha spot will be at 4:40 pm for those of you would like to listen.

HOWEVER, I'd still like to find an Alpha enthusiast to do the radio show and/or man the booth! This is a good money-making opportunity, so please call me if you'd like further info. I'll be traveling tomorrow (Indiana), so please leave me a message on (801)830-3371.

            Hope to hear from you!
