Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Find BY Form

I have a field named "equity"

Some people do not have equity so it reads ie. (3000.00)
People with equity reads ie. 5000.00

I have tried to do a find like this

"-3000.00"100.00 (greater than negative 3000.00 and Less than negative 100.00

It wont let me do it. It just gives me everyone who is Greater than -3000.00

    Thanks so much

    RE: Find BY Form

    "pre"
    Equity "= -3000 .and. Equity "= -100

    "/pre"

The Between() function is also useful here.

Oops. Please ignore the previous. Thought you were running a query. See now you're doing a Find by Form.
      Sorry.

          Julian,

I don't think Find By Form will let you enter a compound expression as a search key.

I'd recommend you use Query By Form, instead. This will filter the current table so that only records matching the search criteria will be visible. Check the User Guide discussion of "Query Operators" and you'll find a robust collection available for you.

            Tom:

What I was really trying to accomplish was a button to automatically return the "=-3000.00 and "=-100.00 group of records with no input from the user. Also, the "equity" field is a calculated field

            Any ideas?

            Thanks

Use a saved query. You make the query and then save it and have the button refer to it.

Where do you start to set up the query to "save" and will it let me query on a calculated field.

Okay, I tried running a "saved query" but, I need to query on a calculated field, which does not show up in my list of field options.

                  Thanks

I don't recall a mention of a calculated field prior to this.

Please post an example of the database and tables so we can be on the same level.

I have a tbl. for the customers. I has three fields on it.

                      Payoff, Value, and Equity.

                      Payoff-Value=Equity

I want to build a saved query where it will return the customers who are "=(3000.00)"=(100.00)

                          Julian,

Unless negative equity is a good thing, shouldn't it be:

                          Value - payoff = equity

                          ???

Do you have a sample table we can play with?

                            Julian,

Unzip the attachment to an empty folder.

You'll find a simple one table database. The saved query operation is on the Operations tab of the control panel. When run it filters the table to show only records where the Equity field has values lying in the range from -3000 to -100.

This example was built with A5V5 but should run just fine under A5V6.
