Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    insert text into memo field

    Well I'm at it again

    I hope I can type this so it's understandable.

    I'm using a 'get records from external table' script and populating a multiselect xdialog box with it, ordering on the field chr value. The xdialog box and contents look good, all in order.
    Then I'm using an 'insert text into memo' script with a few stratigically placed crlf()'s to make a list in a memo field.
    Everything works just fine except for 1 small point. The inserted text items are in a random order. Not alpha, not external table order, not selected order, random. On selecting the same items numerous times during testing, it wasn't the same each time.
    On displaying the script's multi select text's variable alongside the inserted text's memo field, they were the same, so it's going random during the 'get records' part, or in between the two scripts.
    I ordered the 'get records' on the desired field, and also put a new field into the table with chr 01 to 20, kind of like rec number, and sorted on that. The multiselect list always looked as it should but the order output of all this - insert text - never made sense.

    What should I be looking at?

    Thanks
    Duane

    RE: insert text into memo field

    the multi-select text box always puts the value that has focus at the top of the list.

    so if you have the following items selected

    red
    green
    blue
    yellow

    but yellow is the value with focus, then the selected list is actually

    yellow
    red
    green
    blue

    you can use a small amount of xbasic to transform this list into its 'natural' order. i.e. the same order as the displayed list.

    for example:

    say that the list of all values is 'list_all'
    the list of selected value is 'list_selected'

    then

    list1 = word_subtract(list_all,list_selected,crlf())
    list_selected = word_subtract(list_all,list1,crlf())

      RE: insert text into memo field

      Thank you for the quick response

      I have tried adding your code to my code and now I have a blank entry, not the text from the crlf list. My static text I have in the code goes in, so I must not be doing your code right.

      Will keep trying.

      Thanks again

        Here is a code example that works:
        list_all = ""%a%
        red
        green
        yellow
        blue
        orange
        %a%
        ui_dlg_box("test",""%dlg%

        [%E%.100,10selected^#list_all!selected_changed];

        selected list - before rearranging;
        [%m%.100,5selected];

        selected list - after rearranging;
        [%m%.100,5selected2];

        %dlg%,""%code%

        if a_dlg_button = "selected_changed" then
        a_dlg_button = ""
        dim list1 as c
        list1 = word_subtract(list_all,selected,crlf())
        selected2 = word_subtract(list_all,list1,crlf())
        end if
        %code%)

          Thank you

          Your code works as advertized.
          I need some time to figure out how to amalgamate that into my stuff. It's not that obvious to me.

          Thanks again
